Visionary improvement...

Aug 04, 2011 20:02

I went for a walk with commodorified to Bridgehead for a change of scene, a stretch of legs, and to pick up my new glasses. This is an exciting upgrade of my visionary accessories, since for the first time ever I have multifocal lenses so I don't have to take them off and on all the time. I ordered these a week ago Saturday; I was pretty sure they'd be ( Read more... )

Love your title -- and that you're so much more mobile!

Those glasses are gorgeous! And they really suit your style. I like commodorified 's name best.

Definitely agreed.

Moreover, I think that wearing something named "Midgard Serpent" could have unfortunate affects ... especially if you happen to be fishing with friends. :-)

I wouldn't mind fishing with Thor. I think. Well, maybe.

Not that I'm much into fishing!

Yes, I think it will have to be Ouroboros.

Mobility is a very, very good thing. So wonderful not to be tied to an IV pole that is always in just the wrong place to reach what you want to reach.

I think the "salamander" explanation now puts me in mind of Honor Harrington again.

I remind you of Honor Harrington? Is that a good thing?

I always wanted to remind people of Natasha Romanov, but I don't have the red hair or the martial arts, alas.

"Salamander" is Honor's press-inflicted nickname for the way she used to manage to get into all manner of dangerous hotspots as a starship captain(and later on as a combat fleet flag officer) and survive.

So...possibly a good thing, but a bit of a double-edged sword of a compliment.

See, I told you you'd recover quickly [g].

Nice frames, too.

Well, I'm hardly dancing the tango yet, and not quite ready to go back to work, but yup, mobile. And enjoying my glasses.

I'll admit that I was cheap and decided *not* to get bi/tri/multi-focals two years ago. However, I use my current pair all the time, and have seldom dropped, misplaced or otherwise handled them.

Yes, mine are the same pair that "spontaneously dis-assembled" at the end of last year when I met you for lunch. I'm hoping that was a sneaky tactic by Old Man Winter. It hasn't happened since January -- though I had to stop wearing them outside until early April.

And no, I'm not an ophidiophobe -- acrophobia and arachnophobia are far worse for me.

[Silly spell-checker: it wanted to change the sixth word to "radiophone".]

Radiophone - heh. I've yet to hear of someone being a radiophobe, but you never know.

Sheila is the only ophidiophobe I know, as far as I know, but there may be others I just don't know about.

I'm a little bit acrophobic, at least in some circumstances. (Never sure of the parameters.) Ditto just a little bit claustrophobic, sometimes. Not arachnophobic, though I don't like spiders and we have a live and let live mutual arrangement.

My catoptrophobia (fear of mirrors) is mild enough that it doesn't inconvenience me much, though some people think I'm weird when I go out of my way to avoid seeing mirrors.

So glad to hear your glasses are working - and haven't fallen apart again.

I'm hoping the fact that these glasses are expensive will help make me value them and treat them well. And that nothing will go wrong with them.
