The temperature has gone down to 21o. How comfortable!

And what a relief.

Someone at the hospital today told me that Ottawa hasn't had a heat wave as intense as this since 1895.

What I read was that we didn't quite set a heat record, but that the temperatures that beat us were only a degree or half a degree more, and were set a long time ago: 1897, 1912, or 1921. There have also been three 30C+ years in the last decade (2005, 2007, 2009) -- sigh.

Ahh, that sounds more credible than the rumour I heard - and somewhat reassuring.

One thing I'm sure of: today - Saturday - was a great deal more tolerable.
