This has been a good week for food. Today was especially good. I had lunch at Connors Gaelic Pub on Bank Street with Lisa. Neither of us had been there before, and we'd both been thinking about hamburgers lately. They had a really good hamburger platter - hamburger with toppings of choice and Caesar salad or French fries for $6.99. Lisa let me taste one of her fries, and it was good - didn't have that chemical taste that so many French fries have these days.
The place was decorated in Irish and Scottish coats of arms, the kind that are put on ceramic trivets. I used have one, Clan Grant. Might even still have it, packed away somewhere. I couldn't see the Clan Grant crest from where I was sitting. I've always loved that one, burning mountain and all.
I've loved it even more since I read the theory that the Grants are descended from Icelanders, who left Iceland for Scotland to escape a volcanic eruption in the 10th century. Funny, that seems all the more significant today.
I went back to work then, to have a second lunch - one I wasn't expecting. One of the groups on our floor was having a meeting and a luncheon in the Board Room, with warming trays of food in the hall by the elevators. When I left for lunch, it was all about to start, and smelled enticing. When I came back, we all had e-mail saying help yourself to the leftovers, so I did. Chicken in gravy thick with mushrooms, salad, and lovely tiny roast potatoes.
Supper last night was at Flipper's, one of my favourite local restaurants for birthdays, in the Glebe. Mitzi's used to be the birthday restaurant of choice, but they closed. It was Yolande's birthday, so
maaseru,
explodedteabag, Marion and I all took her to Flipper's, where the food is always wonderful. I had steak and lobster, but
maaseru's dish was the very best - sea bass cooked to perfection.
We then went back to my place, where
maaseru provided a lovely fruit pie from The Three Tarts. Heavenly.
And at lunch yesterday I had pad thai, at a luncheon to honour some people at work who are leaving. This was followed by a choice of two cakes, one of them gluten-free chocolate. It just doesn't get better.
Okay, okay, I'll stop talking about food now... making myself hungry, and I had a perfectly fine supper tonight, for all it was mostly leftovers.
