Christmas concert...

I went to a Christmas concert his evening, "Vespers and Carols" by the Musica Viva Singers and Harmonia Choir of Ottawa. I knew about it because duncanmac is in the choir, and I love Christmas music. While there I saw both auriaephiala and Hildegarde. It was in a lovely church, St. Matthew's in the Glebe, and the acoustics were perfect. The place was packed ( Read more... )

And I was *delighted* to have you in the audience, my dear.

Here's my take on the same subject (though I did leave it friends-locked, at least for now).

Oh, and for clarity's sake, I sing with the Musica Viva Singers, not with the other choir. :-)

Yes, I figured that out already. Though at first I wasn't sure which were the black shirts and which were the white shirts. The two choirs looked good together, though.

No, silly panda, it's not cowardice, it's well-informed common sense and self-preservation [g]. I'm glad you had no trouble walking home. And glad that it was a lovely concert.

I did find a reference online to Auld Lang Syne, but the web-page in question is primarily about its composer, Mark Sirett.

It also mentions that the sheet music contains "much of the original Gaelic." No way. This song is entirely in Lowlands Scots, which is definitely a dialect of English. Only a few words (such as "brae") might be borrowed from Gaelic.

That doesn't sound very accurate. There's a lot of difference between Gaelic and Scots.

I'd love to find another recorded example of that tune.

I'm glad you had a lovely time & a safe walk home.

What Christmas music would you like? I've got lots, & would love to share.

I'm making a personal collection of different singers doing In The Bleak Midwinter. There are two tunes, one of which I like and one of which I don't, and I never remember which is the American and which is the British.

I'd love to hear any Christmas music. I love the old traditional stuff, but this year I've been hearing some different, quirky (and sometimes just plain weird) Christmas music.

Anything that's interesting!
