I do occasionally think: "Accountants, unlike medieval historians, have no trouble getting work." But I still don't really want to be an accountant. Because I know I wouldn't be a good accountant. I get along well with words. Numbers? Not so much.
Some might. We live in a materialistic world, and though I'm not into profit, I'm sometimes into acquisition, a trait I like to keep in check whenever possible.
Too true. Numbers do not faze me, and there was a time when I seriously considered becoming an accountant. Now? The philosophy behind it bothers me in ways that I have yet to address.
I too disagree that everything *must* make a profit (or "have a return on investment," or an ROI, to use the modern jargon).
It is people who **are** so convinced who led us into the current economic mess. My usual reaction to this conundrum is quite simple: Dependence on profit is not a profit, just a loss. [Also applied to the Islamic faith on occasion, with "prophet" replacing the first "profit."]

I figure that any faith that finds this in its holy writings is not a total loss:
He deserves Paradise who makes his companions laugh.
I heard via the Toronto Star that this was stumbled across by Brandon Firla, the newest addition to the cast of Little Mosque on the Prairie in his preparations for the role of Rev. Thorne.
As for the rest...I think we are in agreement on all else.

Interesting. It's always nice to be reminded that the Creator *does* have a sense of humor. It always frustrates me that too many of his followers and worshippers not only have no humor, but would be mortally offended if someone -- especially an unbeliever -- suggested such a thing.

This would probaby explain why I am not an accountant...

Me too.
But then, I don't want to be an accountant. So it all works out.
