Ambition
Owen tried very hard to please his teachers, and he often could. His marks were good. They said he was smart, and he was thrilled by their praise.
It was different at home. He tried very hard to please his mother, but he kept doing and saying the wrong things. She said he had a smart mouth. That was a bad thing. He struggled to understand the difference.
When his uncle asked what he wanted to do when he grew up, he said, "I want to save the world."
He didn't understand why the grown-ups laughed at him for it.
