Have you ever noticed that sometimes first impressions aren't always accurate? So, I was talking to one of my bestest friends ever online today, and I realize that our ten year anniversary is coming up. lol. Ten years ago I met John Flores... I remember the first day that we met as though it was yesterday. I was ten years old, had just moved to San Antonio and it was the first day of middle school. I had met a few nice people, but no one I can really recall. The finally, I had made it through the first three periods of the day, and it was 4th period, the period before lunch. I was sitting in my desk in Mrs. Jenkins' 6th grade social studies class, and there was this boy sitting behind me. I figured I'd be nice so I turned around and said, "Hi, my name is Valerie. I'm new here." He in reply, said to me, "Does it look like I care?" I was shocked and hurt! And I made the vow never to speak to this person ever again.
That was a vow I didn't keep. About a week later, he and Travis Patera came running up to me and said I had got this citizens in action thingie and from that day forward, the three of us were the best of friends. It's been ten years since that faithful day, and I still consider both boys to be among my oldest and dearest friends. We've been through a lot together and we've still managed to remain friends, although we don't talk as much as I would like. I miss them both. John especially has been there for me through everything.
it's funny how things change, yet some things stay the same... So, here's to ten years of friendship with Travis and John!
