New Poem... a Work in Progress

Nov 18, 2006 01:30

It's either called "people watching" or "bought power"

Have you ever just watched people?
In any setting, really, like a bookstore.
There is such a wide range of people, not
your typical young to old, white to black spectrum...
NO.
You see people you would otherwise assume to be intellectually
lacking, like a lady in sweats and a ball cap...overweight
walking with a cane. But she stands next to a man in a suit
both reading the same book..."investments".
Tow housewives sit discussing carpools next to a professor &
student discussing nuclear fusion.
It's really only places like this where self help meets harlequin romance
both fulfilling needs...for a fee.
It's interesting to watch people buy into this whoring of knowledge
and how they so craftly do so.
Watch
Them
Closely.
If knowledge is from here, the store with a fee, and knowledge
is power...then how much does power cost?
Library people, different than bookstore people.
No fee for knowledge. It's borrowed, less empowering.
But, ah, the reward of purchasing knowledge with the
all mighty dollar.
THAT
YES THAT
makes watching people so worthwhile.
