Can haz timeline?
March 2004: Mello goes to the Ukraine after Wammy's House closes and his demand attempt to be put in touch with L to discuss the crisis is refused. He lies about his age and enlists in the military, and moves quickly up in the ranks.
July 2004: The Great Panic.
2007: Kiev. A lieutenant by now and a veteran of many bloody engagements, Mello is one of the minds behind the plan to use Patona Bridge as a choke point refugees have to pass over as they flee the city. The civilians are gassed so that the infected ones can be killed when they reanimate.
Summer 2009: The Soviet Union becomes the Holy Russian Empire. Mello is drawn to it for a number of reasons, recognizing the pragmatic value of a religious state even as he personally agrees with the religion behind it. He thinks of the Ukraine as part of the Empire, but feels he's done all he can to advance there. He has made a name for himself, and the Russian army, plagued by desertions, casualties, and suicides, is eager to recruit him.
November 2009: In Novosibirsk, Mello's unit oversees the demolition of another bridge, across the Ob, this time to cut the route off from the undead. The equipment is old, and he's forced to set the charges himself. He makes it out alive but badly burned.
