I have my copy of Mayhem's "Life Eternal".
#0445 of the 3000 limited edition. Have not yet played, as it is late and I don't think inflicting True Unholy Black Metal on my sleeping housemates at twelve o'clock at night will win me any goodwill (and I am not playing this on headphones), but oh my fucking gods. This thing is beautiful. Production values through the roof, which I suppose is ironic in one direction but utterly fitting in the other. The colours and design are amazing, and beautifully matched to the old De Mysteriis design. Black. Indigo blue. Silver, so much glittering embossed silver, on the cover and the text of Attila's letter in the liner notes. The silver and black collector's stickers. The letters, the old photos. The scans of Dead's and Euronymous's tatty handwritten lyric sheets, with the endless annotations and "x4"s that anyone who's ever been in a band knows all too well. *s*
The amount of love and time and thought that has obviously gone into this release is just amazing. Thank you, Attila - thank you very, very much, and I want it on record that whatever I may say about which of Mayhem's vocalists I love the most, you have my total respect. Hail and honour.
