Character info

Series/Fandom: Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
Character's Name: Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter
Character's Sex: Female
Character's Age: 16
Canon point: Post-Stars manga arc, before the wedding.

Abilities:

○ Makoto is good at sports, and practiced in martial arts such as judo.

○ Makoto is a talented ice skater. It's said this is something that was cultivated even in her past life, in the Moon Kingdom. She also enjoys dancing and ballet.

○ She has a green thumb, and can cook and bake just about anything. Usagi would probably say that her cooking is her best ability. She may even learn how to make some paopu delights!

○ Senshi Power: Makoto is blessed with the power to transform into Sailor Jupiter, the scout of protection and thunder. As Sailor Jupiter, she has several unique powers:

- Her powers are based on both lightning and wood/trees. Most of her senshi powers are lightning-based, and her strongest attack, Jupiter Oak Evolution, is enabled when she gains a wreath of oak leaves in her hair, which are said to be the symbol of thunder and lightning. For other lightning-based attacks she uses a small antenna on her tiara, and her body, as a conductor for electricity.

- Awakened as a senshi, she seems to gain even more physical strength, allowing her to lift people.

- Along with the other inners, she can use her powers to teleport to various worlds and places (such as from the Earth to the Moon). However, she can only do this alongside her fellow senshi. (Also, this will be capped to only worlds visited in-game, if possible.)

- As a senshi, she's also more resistant to mind control, due to having a stronger will than most. This doesn't mean she's immune, as she's mind-controlled at several points throughout the series, but weaker monsters that are capable of seducing normal humans are unable to control her and the other senshi.

- As the senshi of thunder and wood, Makoto is able to sense things in the movement of trees and the way storms build. It's also stated in the manga that, when she's sick, she can "build up an electric charge like a battery." (Quoted from the manga.) Thus, when she's sick, she can shock people without meaning to do so, and it also implies that when she's not ill she has more control of this, both as a senshi and a civilian.

- She has a strong connection to her fellow senshi, as she can sense their whereabouts and their feelings at various points in the manga, most notably when she, Ami, and Rei are captured on Nemesis. They are able to sense Sailor Moon, and she is able to sense them in turn.

Strengths:

○ Strength - Makoto is very strong, and very physically fit. She's good at sports, fighting, and defending herself. She uses her reputation as a gangster and a fighter (though she isn't actually one) to also have a threatening demeanor, strengthened by her relatively tall height (she's the tallest of the inner senshi).

○ Courage - She's also known to be the brave one of the group, and she's quick to protect her friends when they're in trouble. She's often the one who puts herself in front of Usagi when a fight erupts, and she's quick fight back when threatened.

○ Offense - Just about all of Makoto's attacks are offensive, and she's rumored to physically be the strongest of the inner senshi.

○ Will - Like her fellow senshi, she has an incredibly strong will. She's fight for the things she believes in, and especially to protect those she loves. She takes her duty as a senshi, as well as Sailor Moon's guardian, very seriously. To her, those two things give her purpose in her life when she had none.

Weaknesses:

○ Quick-Tempered - Being that Makoto is so quick to jump into a fight, this often gets her into trouble. It makes her, and Ami, the first to fall to Galactica's Sailor Scouts in the Stars storyline, and it causes her to jump into a judo match with Haruka, Sailor Uranus, which she loses due to being overeager.

○ Defense - Being that she's always ready to attack, she focuses less on defense. She relies on her power to get her through battles, which isn't always enough.

○ Aura - Seeing that she has a relatively strong aura, and she's rather tall, she often intimidates people. On the inside she's very kind, but before she met Usagi and the other senshi she was often isolated due to her demeanor.

Background: Wikipedia & Wikimoon
Appearance: Plain Clothes; Uniform (in the center, in the back, with the brown hair); Sailor Jupiter (on the right).

Personality: Makoto is defined, on the outside and as a senshi, by her strength, her courage, and her protectiveness. She's always quick to jump to the defense of her friends, and if someone wrongs them she's typically the first person to lash out. Out of the five girls (the "inner senshi"), she's seen as the most courageous, as she'll jump into any situation, even one that looks bleak, and she's quite brave. In fact, she's a bit chivalrous, as she hates seeing people preying on the weak, and will step up to fight bullies. Upon her introduction to the series, she overcomes the enemy's mind control thanks to Sailor Moon and her awakening senshi powers, and then lashes out at them for preying on women's dreams of being brides. Later, in the Stars arc, she is the first to jump to Usagi's defense against their unknown enemy, even at the cost of her own life.

Of course, her outer shell doesn't completely define who she is. While Makoto's number one dream is to become a strong senshi so that she can protect Sailor Moon and the earth, she has a lot of other dreams she wishes to accomplish, and most of them are likely surprising given her tomboyish appearance. Being orphaned at a young age, Makoto wishes to be a young bride so that she can have a family of her own. She wishes to find a loving husband (and is a bit boy-crazy, along with Minako), and open a flower shop or a bakery. In fact, while she's definitely not the smartest of the group (she constantly pulls low grades on tests, alongside Usagi), she excels at home economics. Taking care of plants, cooking, baking, sewing, house cleaning--they're her favorite things to do, alongside bargain shopping.

Two other dreams that she mentions during the Dream arc are: to be as beautiful as Michiru (Sailor Neptune) and as strong as Haruka (Sailor Uranus). She admires them both greatly, and it's thoughts of Sailor Uranus that help pull her out of the enemy's clutches at a crucial moment, also awakening her to her Jupiter crystal and her strongest powers. Her admiration for both Michiru and Haruka, though, help to highlight the conflict that Makoto often faces, which is that she's both a tomboy and a feminine girl. A lot of her desire to get a boyfriend stems from the fact that she believes it will make her more feminine as a result, and though she never quite finds one during the series, she does become more and more comfortable with who she is, and the dichotomy within herself.

A few other points to highlight the differences between her tomboyish self, and her feminine self: she wears herself up in a ponytail, but keeps it long; she wears rose earrings, but not make-up; she often smells of roses, but dresses more in pants than anything; her Sailor Jupiter has a green base with sugar pink ribbons, two colors distinctly masculine and feminine.

Makoto is known to have a rather quick temper as well. She's much more the type to act before she thinks, and this often gets her into trouble and arguments with some of her friends. If she feels that something is off about someone, she will both distrust them and keep them as far away from her friends (namely Usagi) as possible. This happened with Mamoru, Haruka, and the Star Lights, and it took her a while to completely trust them. Of course, when trust is earned from Makoto, she is quite loyal and protective. She'll lay down her life for those she trusts, and she'll fight to the end for them.

It should be noted that, in Makoto's past life, she was the Princes of Jupiter, and lived in Io Castle on her planet. When she was chosen to become Sailor Jupiter she moved to live in the Moon Kingdom where she pledged loyalty to Sailor Moon. Based on the manga (in the Dreams arc), this seems to have happened when she was still just a child, so she grew up largely in the Moon Kingdom. As Sailor Jupiter she is, in a way, still this Princess, though she was reborn into a human body.

Strengths:

Makoto possesses a lot of physical strength, and courageousness. She's a tomboy, and somewhat chivalrous. She's loyal and protective of her friends. She's quick to act, believes very much in the power of love. She's feminine and a great cook, and loves to bake, as it's one thing she used to do with her mother before she died. She has a green thumb and especially loves roses. She strives to be more graceful and feminine, and she's a talented ice skater. She excels at sports, and practices martial arts. She's quick to defend others, and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty. She is Sailor Jupiter, and controls thunder and lightning, as well as trees, which symbolize Jupiter.

Weaknesses:

Makoto is not much of a strategist, and she's not overly intelligent. She's quick-tempered and often lashes out. She has a hard time finding a balance between her tomboyish qualities and her feminine desires. She has trouble with guys, and is, at times, quick to fall in love. She was orphaned at a young age so she became used to being alone, so at times she has trouble trusting in others. She makes bad grades. She dislikes potatoes in anything but croquettes (though she'll eat them if she thinks they'll help to train her). She lacks self-preservation, especially when it comes to Usagi and the other senshi. She has so many dreams that she loses her focus at times, but thankfully her friends help to keep her grounded, which is certainly needed for a thunderbolt like herself.

Samples

Action/Journal Sample: [The feed clicks on to show Makoto, wearing her apron and a smile. She's happiest when she's baking, and she's been doing it all day. Later she'll spend all night cleaning up the mess, but it's worth it, especially when she thinks of the smiles her friends will make while eating her food.]

I hope you're all hungry! I finally got permission to borrow the kitchen, so I've been cooking all day.

[She realizes, belatedly, that she's just admitted to putting off her studies. Ami will give her an earful, but maybe...

The feed swivels around to show a tray of sandwiches.]

For Ami, your favorite sandwiches! [And then to a cake with strawberries on top, various other sweets, and then a plate of hot dogs.] I had fun with these hot dogs. Hopefully they're up to your standards, Zell. [And then the camera turns back around to her.] Your chocolate cake should be ready soon, Rei. And there's plenty of your favorites, too, Usagi. I even found some sea salt icecream; it's in the freezer.

So you all better show up to eat tonight! Professor... Maybe we'll get to see you, too?

[Her smile looks a little more subdued and careful for a moment - reflecting her feelings for the older woman and the outer scout - but just as quickly as it does it brightens again.]

Any special requests, anyone?

RP Sample: The moment something was amiss, Makoto had known. She had jumped up from where she sat on her couch, for once taking a night to relax after all that had happened with Galaxia and the cauldron, and called to the other girls on the communicator. It was alive with chatter as they tried to figure out what was going on. Hadn't Usagi just recently given her life to erase the darkness in the universe? Why was this happening now, when everything was finally returning to normal? Wasn't their sacrifice enough to win them more than a few days of peace?

Feeling a storm brewing, Makoto had run outside. Usagi didn't live far away, and her first instinct was to go to her--to protect her--just as she'd always done. On the streets the shadows were alive and writhing, their beady, glowing eyes warning her only moments before they jumped to attack. She transformed into Sailor Jupiter, used her power to throw them off of her. The skies shook as she called upon her heavenly attacks, but for every one she knocked back two took its place.

In the end she made it to the park near Usagi's house, out of sheer determination, before she was wrestled to the ground. The claws of the Heartless tore at her skin, and as darkness began to bear down on her she let out a strangled cry. "Usagi! Everyone!" She was failing them all; how could this be happening?

If she was going to die, she was going to take some of them with her. Using her body as a conduit, she stored up enough electricity so that, when she was finally swallowed by the darkness, she let it out in a brilliant display of violent light. The last things she remembered hearing were the hiss of electricity and the pained cries of the Heartless.

Hours later, when she finally awoke, she scraped her fingertips on the cobblestone as she pushed herself up. She expected to see Usagi and the others beside her--that was how it usually was when she awoke--but instead she was alone, in a town that was not familiar to her. She had de-morphed by then, leaving her in her high school uniform, but when she reached for her Jupiter crystal she felt it still. Breathing a sigh of relief she checked her communicator, getting nothing but static.

"Kupo..." The voice, so close to her, put her on alert. When she caught sight of the moogle she gave it a sharp once-over, causing it to shrink back a bit.

"Where am I? Where are my friends?" She demanded briskly, as straightforward as she usually was.

"Y-Your friends, kupo? I don't know, kupo, but try finding them on this!" It hesitantly held out a new communicator, and Makoto inspected it closely before she finally took it. "You've arrived in Traverse Town, kupo."

"Traverse Town?" She'd never heard of it, but, then again, she rarely paid attention in geography. Was it some kind of strange town? Or a new world, perhaps? The enemy's base? "Why?"

"Well, kupo... Your world was.." The moogle trailed off, and gave her a wary look. "You should ask the people on there, kupo! I'm sorry, I'm very busy, kupo!"

And with that, the moogle frantically began to fly away, leaving Makoto to give a soft growl of frustration. If it was up to her to figure out what happened, she knew she'd better get to work. She lacked Ami's brains and Rei's good senses, so it'd take her even longer to discover what was going on. She could only pray that everyone else had made it through in one piece; it was too soon to be separated again.
