Jack gestured and the next prospect flashed on the screen. A sharp gasp made him turn in his seat to view, with some irritation, his 2IC and CMO sitting forward with rapt attention. “Carter, would you like a napkin to wipe up the drool?”
“Holy Hannah,” Sam breathed. Janet simply gave a low whistle. Jack shook his head and began reading the file out loud.
“Clark Kent, eighteen, recommended for Special Forces by an Air Force recruiter. Straight A student, works for the school paper, and helps his parents run the family farm. Also, the recruiter noted that he was very good at handling incredibly unusual situations.”
“What kind of ‘unusual situations’ could a farm kid from Kansas even see?” Daniel frowned and reached for the file. Jack pulled it away from his reach.
“The original recruiter was killed before he could elaborate.”
The female half of the table was still studying the picture in front of them. “There’s no way this man is only eighteen,” Janet commented, mostly to herself.
Jack had by this time flipped over the page and read the follow-up recruiter’s note. “Next!”
“Sir, maybe we should consider him,” argued Sam. “His math and physics scores are phenomenal.”
Jack let the words of the recruiter speak for him. “Can’t stand to fly.”
