Learning How to Ask, Harvey Snippet

a/n: I've had this done with the rest of the Suits/LHTF but some how this didn't get posted with the rest. I'm sorry for skipping posts and any confusion it caused. Please see the sticky post for story order.

Harvey had been in the middle of organizing his life for a sabbatical. Yes, he would lose his office, probably to Louis, but he would gain an office on Atlantis. And when he returned, it would be fun to earn back his office, and removing Louis. He owned his condo and had enough in savings to cover the taxes for the foreseeable future.

All of his work could be useless conjecture but Jessica was pretty sure that Jack O’Connell wouldn’t mind taking Harvey on, even as expensive as he would be. When he had privately approached Donna about the possibility, she had stared for a moment. Harvey had explained that they would be ‘part-time’ at Pearson Hardman for a couple cases a year and then would be able to return to their Earthbound jobs at any point. She nodded, then a slow, cat-like smile had appeared on her face. “Do you think I could get a pretty unit of Marines at my beck and call?”

“I think you’d have the pick of the litter.”

So when Donna, who had strict orders to take a message for all incoming calls, said that there was someone on the phone that he really should talk to, Harvey knew that it was the SGC. Harvey sat up straight and reached for his phone. “Harvey Spector,” he declared.

“Hey, Harvey,” Mike answered. “It’s me.”

“I’m afraid I don’t have a client by that name,” Harvey snarked.

Mike laughed. “Can you get me an all day appointment with Rene?”

“You do need a new suit,” Harvey was quick to agree. “Your current one was tailored to a person with less wide shoulders.”

“With Dean and Jack in charge of my physical training, I had no choice but to add muscle mass. But I need an excellent tailor to work with some new material. Rene’s the best I know. I think he’d like it.”

“I’ll call him and arrange a day.”

“Thanks.”

There was an awkward silence and then Harvey blurted (the best closer in New York blurting! This is what Mike reduced him to), “So how much of a pay cut would I have to take to join the Atlantis team?”

“Yes! Yes!” Mike rejoiced. “I thought Jack was full of it, when he told me what to do, but… Yes! This is going to be so awesome, Harvey. The rest of the unit is nice and all but sometimes it’s hard to get through the silent Winchester conversation and Jack’s a great boss but still a boss and…”

“Mike!”

“What?”

“I’m simply asking. Don’t get ahead of yourself. How much would my salary decrease if I were to work for the SGC?”

Mike didn’t pretend that he didn’t know, compounding the idea that the whole thing was preplanned. “Your SGC salary would be seventy-two percent of your Pearson Hardman salary.”

That was quite a pay cut. “Is that negotiable?”

“Is Donna coming too? ‘Cause your pays are from the same budget.”

“Is she having to take a pay cut as well?”

“Not as much, but yes.”

That made sense. “I’ll get back to you.” He would have to discuss it with Donna before agreeing. He knew that he could easily afford it since few of his bills were non-negotiable but he stayed out of Donna’s finances.

“Understood. And about my appointment with Rene?”

“It’ll be this week. I’ll text you the day.”

“Great. Awesome.”

Harvey hung up on Mike before he could gush more. Seriously, one would think that he had matured some.
