Learning How to Make Friends, Yet More Harvey

“Harvey, this is Sam Winchester. He’ll be showing you the ropes.”
Harvey took in the quick - genuine - smile, the impossible height, the broad shoulders and the obsessively neat desk, all things that couldn’t be conveyed through a personnel file. Harvey probably could work with this man. Harvey could work with this man. Harvey waved towards Marine Winchester’s messy but sparse office. “Any relation?” Jack hadn’t told him that, though he had hinted.
“Brother,” Sam acknowledged with a self-deprecating shrug and by brushing some hair out of his face. Normally Harvey would harass a fellow lawyer for the apparent vulnerability, but given Winchester’s impressive physical appearance Harvey understood the need to be approachable, appearance wise.
Sam brushed his hair back unnecessarily. “I know,” he said. “Dean keeps threatening to knock me out and take me to the barber and yes, the barber here would trim the hair of an unconscious person if Dean asked. It’s a better option to Dean shaving me bald, which has happened before.”
“He cuts it just before meetings with the Genii,” Mike added. “Scares the shit out of them with minimal effort.”
Sam shrugged as if embarrassed, but Harvey knew he wasn’t. “Did you read the information packets I sent you?”
Harvey had known that Mike hadn’t put it together because Mike had a habit of believing that everyone could read as fast as he could and wanted all of the extraneous information. Harvey had consumed the files with a speed, ferocity and enthusiasm that he hadn’t realized had been missing from his Pearson-Hardman work since Mike had been fired. He had found the files to be remarkably complete and well-ordered. “Yes. I only need a few clarifications.” He had studied them thoroughly on the three-week trip to Atlantis.
“I’m sure.” Sam waved a hand at the office next to him. Harvey saw that it had a truly impressive view of the city. “Would you like to familiarize yourself with your office and have this meeting there? Otherwise we can meet in my office now.”
Harvey knew that any power plays, subtle or overt, would not work on this man. Sam Winchester could be an ally or an absolute pain in Harvey’s ass, and was all Harvey’s choice.
“I’d like to get right to work and have a better idea of what’s required of me so that organize my space accordingly.”
Sam grinned and Harvey realized that the younger man would make a great friend.

“So what is this tea ritual that I have to learn?” Harvey asked before he sat down in Sam’s visitor’s chair.
“Jennifer, Jess and Sue will be coming with the tea and we’ll have it together as a group in an hour.” He paused and spoke loud enough for the people in the outer office to hear. “The rest of us need practice, since a certain someone was preoccupied and nearly bombed a negotiation.”
Mike yelped from his office and yelled back. “I had just realized that Ancient writings were hidden in the walls. Not my fault.”
“You didn’t have to read it out loud.”
“It didn’t make sense.”
“Kids,” Jack warned from his office and the argument stopped in its tracks.
“Jennifer, Jess and Sue?” Harvey repeated the strange names.
Now Sam looked at him and there was a definite teasing grin there. “Mike’s significant other, my wife and Dean’s… steady frustration, respectively. The Fietiques are a matriarchal society, so it’ll be easier to see it work with them. Don’t worry, it’s fun.”
“Think of it as opening negotiations with a flair,” Mike added.
In addition to all of the different judicial systems on the different worlds, Harvey needed to learn the cultural systems as well. Sam was correct, it was fun.

darkestnight12 “What does Winchester actually do?”
“Which one?” Mike was distracted and not paying any attention to Harvey, but the older man was counting on that giving him a more honest answer.
“The non-lawyer one.” Harvey didn’t say Duh, but his tone did.
Mike met his eyes and grinned. “You know the quote ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’?”
“Edward Bulwer-Lytton’s play Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy or were you just being facetious?” Harvey responded to Mike’s dropped jaw. He liked surprising the other man with trivia.
Mike shrugged. “In Dean’s case, the options are a marker or paint and a paintbrush verses explosives. He’s equally talented. If Dean was my enemy, I’d block all access to writing equipment and let him try for the explosives. Less damage that way.”
Harvey frowned. “What are you saying?”
“You will never believe it until you see it for yourself. Also, don’t get on Dean’s bad side on Atlantis. She’ll always take his side. You do not want your apartment and city to wreak havoc on your life. It is not pretty.”
“What’s the fastest way to get Dean upset?”
Mike just gave him a look.
“The other Winchester?”
“The other Winchester,” Mike confirmed.

shinobus Mike, Harvey and Sam pored over the legal documents. “We could do this?” Mike muttered.
“We can make this work,” Sam confirmed.
“We have all the details hammered out,” Harvey declared. “We just have to deliver it to Lanids and get them to sign. Everything is within their culture now.”
“Too bad Carter won’t let us return to the planet of Lanid.” Mike was severely disappointed.
“I’ll talk to her,” Harvey suggested.
“Won’t work,” Sam shook his head. “She’s really good at saying no. If they don’t agree to sign, it’s all three of our heads on the literal chopping block. The risk is too high. She won’t trade our lives for a chance at an enemy that might betray us at any moment.”
“But they won’t betray us,” Mike argued. “We wrote it into the contract and they would die before breaking any contract. That’s what got us into the mess in the first place.”
“She’ll say no.”
“So we need someone to say yes.” Harvey was plotting and the other two waited for his plan to develop.
“Too bad O’Connell is Stateside,” Mike mourned. “He’d say yes.”
“He’d make you and Mike stay behind and he and I would take the contract to the Lanids,” Sam corrected. It was true, they needed two from Atlantis to sign and Jack had the authority to sign on Carter’s behalf and Sam had the authority to seconded it. Those two also had the best chance of fighting their way out if the signing went sideways.
“Sam and I will go,” Harvey declared.
“You’re only good in close combat and shit with a knife,” Sam countered. “The Lanids like their knives only second to their contracts.”
“That’s why we’re taking Dean. We need a pilot anyways and he can get us there and then cover our retreat if necessary.”
Mike was still pouting at being left behind but his defensive movements tended to gangle rather than be effective. “Dean could do it,” Mike knew.
“We just need him to say yes,” Harvey told them. “And then we can tie another ally to Atlantis.”

“Dean?”
“No, no, no.”
“I’ve haven’t asked you yet.”
“All three of you are looking hopeful, so it’s more than no, it’s ‘Hell, No’.”

“Are you all out of your minds!? Hell. No.”

Dean hit his head against the steering wheel of Jumper 17. “I thought I said no.”

shamangrrl Jack O’Neill (O’Connell) had his feet kicked up on his desk. His hands were playing his GameBoy but his ears were listening to his team. Sam and Mike were planning a double date, with Dean and Harvey heckling. Jack was pleased with the date. Hopefully, it would make Haley to stop dragging her feet and accept a position in his department. He knew that she would act professionally around Mike during work hours (Harvey would kick Mike’s ass for not doing the same). Jack needed the scientific know-how perspective and Jennifer Haley was his pick, no one else would do.

jebbypal Harvey looked over the stack of cases. Mike had been busy. He was Jack’s pet closer and Harvey had trained him to be the best. Still… Harvey had expected to be able to blow into the department and make a huge impact, start right away competing for the title of Best Closer in the Pegasus Galaxy. Mike had stacks and stacks of cases and missions that he had settled in the best interest of Atlantis, the SGC and Earth. Hundreds.
Well, Harvey wasn’t going to regain his title pouting about it. He had a lot of work to catch up.

nyx_girl “Hide me!”
Jennifer was tackled by a blur with a voice she recognized. “Rodney?”
“There’s got to be someplace to hide in the infirmary.”
“What did you do?”
“Nothing!”
She just glared. “Who are you hiding from? Ronon again? Teyla? Zelenka?” Rodney McKay still hadn’t jumped yet so she hadn’t guess correctly yet. “John?”
Rodney shook his head. “No. I don’t even know their names.”
“Who?”
“The clone’s -the general’s, not Carson’s- secretaries. Why does he need two?”
Jennifer didn’t know whether to hit her boyfriend or sigh. “Rachael is a law clerk and Donna is a personal assistant. Neither could be considered Jack O’Connell’s secretary.”
“They’re scarier than wraith queens.”
“You do realize that by upsetting them, you’ve upset everyone in that department. You should be worried about what Jack or the Winchesters will do to you.”
“Why do you think I need you to hide me?” Rodney wailed.
“Go apologize, now.”
“But!”
“I want you in one piece and chances are good that the rest of the department will just let the women do whatever they want as revenge and not get involved.”
“Oh, that’s not too bad.”
Jennifer refrained from smacking herself in the face. She smacked Rodney upside the head instead. “No, that’s worse. They don’t have the same restrictions and all the same access. Go apologize now.”
“But!”
“Now.”
