Fanmix - Doctor Who - Companions - Those left behind

Jun 27, 2007 14:41

A short and very soppy fanmix borne out of Sarah-Jane-and-Romana-leaving-related angst. This is for all the companions that the Doctor left behind.

Those left behind

1. “Ordinary day” - Vanessa Carlton

Just a day / Just an ordinary day / Just tryin' to get by / Just a boy / Just an ordinary boy / But he was lookin' to the sky / And as he asked if I would come along / I started to realize / That everyday he finds / Just what he's lookin' for / Like a shooting star he shines / And He said / Take my hand / Live while you can / And if we walk now we will divide and conquer this land... / Please come with me, / See what I see. / Touch the stars for time will not flee. / Time will not flee

It was just an ordinary day when they met him. But he was the most extraordinary man.

2. “Across the Universe” - Fiona Apple

Sounds of laughter shades of earth are ringing / Through my open ears inciting and inviting me / Limitless undying love which shines around me like a / Million suns, it calls me on and on
Across the universe / Jai guru de va om / Nothing’s gonna change my world, / Nothing’s gonna change my world. / Nothing’s gonna change my world. / Nothing’s gonna change my world.

He showed them the universe. Worlds without end. Supernovas, intergalactic battles…

3. “The day forever died” - Matt Wertz

I can't believe that you're gone, without a trace / I can't believe you've got no tears upon your face / While mine is soaking wet, making up for your lack I guess / That's how it is in love, or out of love as I sit now / Without you next to me, wishing things that just can't be

… and then he leaves. Or they leave. Either way, suddenly they aren’t Companions any more. They’re the ones he’s left behind.

4. “Goodbye to you” - Michelle Branch

Of all the things I believe in… / tears from behind my eyes / but I do not cry / Counting the days that past me by / I've been searching deep down in my soul / Words that I'm hearing are starting to get old / Looks like I'm starting all over again / The last three years were just pretend and I say / Goodbye to you… / When the stars fall I will lie awake / You’re my shooting star

They’re right back where they started. But a few years older, and a few galaxies wiser.

5. “Who knew?” - Pink

You took my hand / You showed me how / You promised me you'd be around / Uh huh / That's right / I took your words / And I believed / In everything / You said to me / Yeah huh / That's right / If someone said three years from now / You'd be long gone / I'd stand up and punch them out / Cause they're all wrong / I know better / Cause you said forever / And ever / Who knew?

He keeps promising. And they keep believing that he’ll be around forever. But then he’s gone.

6. “Behind these hazel eyes” - Kelly Clarkson

Seems like just yesterday / You were a part of me / I used to stand so tall / I used to be so strong… / Now I can't breathe / No, I can't sleep / I'm barely hanging on / Here I am, once again / I'm torn into pieces / Can't deny it, can't pretend / Just thought you were the one / Broken up, deep inside / But you won't get to see the tears I cry / Behind these hazel eyes

When he was with them, they stood tall and strong. When he left, they hurt. He was everything, and then everything went away. But why would they let something like that stop them?

7. “Life is short” - Butterfly Boucher

Oh I am young but I have aged / Waited long to seize the day / All things said and plenty done / Oh I am young but I have a past / Travelled far to find the start / Yes I am scared and I've been burnt / But life is short

Life is short, in the end. As he said - he’ll live almost forever, but they wither and they die. So they might as well make the best of it.

8. “Remember” - Josh Groban

Remember, when your dreams have ended / Time can be transcended / Just remember me / I am the one star that keeps burning, so brightly, / It is the last light, to fade into the rising sun / I'm with you / Whenever you tell, my story / For I am all I've done / Remember, I will still be here / As long as you hold me, in your memory / Remember me

A song for him. As long as they remember him, he’ll always be there.

9. “Your hand in mine (Goodbye)” - Explosions in the sky

(instrumental)

This isn’t sad, it’s hopeful. Their lives didn’t end after he left. They went on. And they were… fantastic.
