ThorLove BlogHop!!!

So, there's a THOR LOVE BLOG HOP going on!!!

Here is my contribution. Enjoy!

When I heard about the ThorLove BlogHop, I knew exactly which incarnation of Thor I wanted to talk about.

He may not be the drop-dead-gorgeous Chris Hemsworth/Avengers version, or the impeccably-written and terribly romantic Forged By Fate (Amalia Dillin) version, but he has his own special charms, and I love him all the same.

Plus, whenever I get a chance to gush over this particular televisual delight, I'm going to, okay?

This is Thor, as played by Geoffrey Dolan in the completely fantastic TV show The Almighty Johnsons. Well, more specifically, this is a Kiwi farmer called Derrick, who discovered on his 21st birthday, that he was the living incarnation of the Norse God Thor.

You might think this is a scary thing to discover, and it certainly was for Derrick. He was adopted as a child, away from his parents (also the incarnations of a Norse God and Goddess, though he has no idea who), and he was a troubled young man. In fact, he received his birthright in prison, and was informed by a fellow inmate, who just happened to be the incarnation of Tyr.

Thankfully, he isn't alone.

Meet the Johnsons.

From L to R, we have:

Anders, the incarnation of Bragi. He's a smooth talking public relations guy, with the power of persuasion. He sleeps with all the wrong people, but he's a good guy at heart. Mostly. He tries. Sometimes. Sometimes he feels bad afterwards. (Often he doesn't.)

Mike, the incarnation of Ullr. He's a builder/bar owner, with the all the powers of the god of games. Never challenge him to anything, he literally cannot lose. He's the big brother, the dad of the group really. (Their actual father is the god of the sea, and has a tendency to keep sailing away.) He doesn't let the power go to his head though. (*laughs*)

Axl, the incarnation of Odin. This is Axl's story, really. It begins with his apotheosis (to borrow a Greek term), and mostly follows his attempts to find his Frigga. One of the candidates for this position is, in fact, Derrick's daughter Delphine. (Let's just say that she isn't, and leave it at that, eh?)

Ty, the incarnation of Hodr. Poor Ty. It's not easy being the god of all things dark and cold, especially when you can't control your powers and almost freeze your girlfriend to death when sleeping with her. At one point, he does attempt to suppress the god inside, but you'll have to watch the show to find out how that goes!

Grandpa, the incarnation of Baldr. Yup, the grandfather. There are benefits to being the god of youth. His great loves in life are his car, surfing and being high. Maybe not in that order. He is also the oracle of the family, a somewhat thankless task.

But back to Thor.

This seems to be his traditional state. Angry, protective, and wielding his Mjolnir. Which, in this incarnation, appears to be a common claw hammer. Hey, don't mock his Mjolnir, it gets the job done! He farms his goats, he drinks (sometimes to excess), and he loves his daughter.

And if all that didn't whet your appetite to check out this glorious show, and to meet another fantastic version of everyone's favourite thunder god, um... At one point, this happens.

Yeah, that's our Thor. In a wedding dress. Singing karaoke.

Exactly.

What are you waiting for??

Okay, so if you've got all the way down here and are still reading, a bonus video. Here's Thor in action!
