I've heard it said that it takes three weeks to build a habit. I find myself somewhat skeptical, but last week marked the third attempted and third successful week of my 5,000 words per week initiative.
Color me pleased.
There are other habits I'd like to add, which have to do with my physical and financial well-being.
(1) Getting in a workout five days out of seven.
(2) Drinking lots of water and a fraction as much pop (or soda or coke, whatever).
(3) Sticking to a budget.
(4) Shedding about 20 lbs to appease my vanity.
Goal #1 took a dubious blow this evening, as my Wii seems to be having trouble syncing all of a sudden... not that I need it to exercise, but it's been a faithful friend and tie-post in my on-again, off-again dance with weight loss attempts.
Can I do it? Can I add another ball or two to the tenuous juggling I've managed for the last three weeks? As with writing, I need to figure out what sort of goal I can set that's actually sustainable with my personality. I must ponder this carefully, and differently than the grand, sweeping declarations of "everything changes tomorrow!!!" that I have tried in the past. That's just signing myself up for a burn-out.
Will ponder and report back when said ponderings have congealed into something resembling an enhanced game plan.
In the mean time, I am going to try and shoot for an even 1,000 words per day M-F this week.
