I am having serious trouble working this semester. Which is Not of the Good, as Buffy might say, because the Ph.D-2 year is rather critical as far as learning shit goes. Prelims this summer, let us never, ever forget

One of my profs at the University of Barcelona was saying the other day how being a professor is such a great job because you have so much time to dictate as you like and you get to check out whatever interests you and pursue it and such. I know you already know that, but really, I would think you can both be a writer and a professor. I mean, you can't very well be a prof if you don't write at all, but I think being a prof also in a way facilitates your writing because you have a much more open schedule than a lot of other jobs. Plus, if you're just a writer you need to be doing something else besides or else how you going to develop stories if you aren't interacting with people all the time? I don't think you, of all people, could ever not interact with people, but you will get the opportunity to meet a whole lot of people being a prof - students and faculty and visiting writers and whatnot.
Clearly, it's your life and I'm a very outside observer, but those are my two cents.
I'm just really glad to hear you are feeling so much forward momentum. That is great. Enjoy it.
