Ready, steady, DEBATE!

A friend from undergrad (who I saw this past weekend) and I got into a debate over the question:

To what extent is it possible for human beings to have "casual sex?"

By "casual sex," we meant "sex that does not carry significant emotional weight behind it." That's sufficiently vague, so here's an example - while you could have "casual sex" with someone you don't know, or with a person who is a friend but who you could never see as your boyfriend/girlfriend, you could NOT have "casual sex" with your significant other or with someone for whom you harbored romantic feelings.

My theory is that, while the specifics depend on the person involved, YES, we as humans are capable of such a thing. And thus, that it can be healthy/fun/not a big deal. I invoked the time I hooked up with J.S. on the pool table in Sig Nu my junior year. Yes, I am that cool (and that stupid for thinking such a feat makes me cool. But deep down, part of me will always be proud). ;)

Her contention is that we can never become physically intimate without emotional consequence. That physical intimacy has the capacity to *create* strong emotional connection, perhaps even where it didn't exist before.

So. Comments? Thoughts? If you want to be really revealing - do YOU think you could ever have "casual sex"?
