So, I'm updating. Almost exactly a month after my last update. Life is weird.
I'm starting to feel like I can finally attach myself to people here. If one thing can be said about Chicago-ers, it's that we overanalyse.
Talking with Ramya today, I realised that just about everyone goes through this WHAT THE FUCK AM I WASTING MY TIME FOR HERE phase, but I feel like it will and is subsiding, into complacency as well as comprehension that it's a lot better than I make it out to be.
In fact, I might even say I love it here... hm.
So, had the worst day ever today. Although it's been getting better:
woke up at 10:22 for my 10:30 class = fuck!
3 straight hours of class, and I fell asleep in both of them
came back, tried to smoke a cig, and it was a dud and wouldn't light right
screamed
went inside to take a shower and maybe rid myself of some of my filth
it was occupied
went to Bartlett to get food
didn't want anything, and got a Pepsi
SPILLED MY FUCKING PEPSI ALL THE FUCK OVER MY BRAND NEW SHOES, AND BETTY MY CLARINET
almost cried/ died
knocked my Pepsi over again
read LJ, and realised that all 3 people who promised to come visit me in the next 2 months aren't coming
Then it started getting better:
went to Hum, and didn't fall asleep
went and got coffee with Ramya after class, and walked with her, which was excellent (P.S. we need to hang out for real some time)
went to that room in the Reynolds club with the couches and fireplaces and "studied"
study is my keyword for sleep
played ping pong
drank orange juice
now I'm here.
Last weekend I went to an 80s party, which was surprisingly fun for a U of C party. Chilled on Saturday, but got up at 9 on Sunday. Ellie and I went and saw Citizen Kane on the big screen at the Music Box, this amazing old theater. Then we went thrifting, and I got an awesome shirt to match my (now stained) Pumas. We continued from Wrigleyville to Boystown, where we went to Gaymart, which was highly amusing.
Then we found the most amazing restaurant, Fast & Fresh, which we are certainly visiting soon.
Waiting for the *grumble* Red Line, we had the most beautiful and serene view of all the rooftops, church steeples, the Loop in the background, the surreality of the tracks, and the setting sun. It was insanity, and we drank it in. This is why I'm glad to be back in Chicago; because I had forgotten that it's beautiful. Despite lack of trees, open spaces, and other nicities, it is an overwhelmingly beautiful city.
Oh, and one more bitch. My iPod that I got in November died. Great. Way to be, Rolan 2.
K, done.
