some people need to die

I had the worst.customer.ever today. Seriously.

She came up to my counter with a pack of lisianthus and wanted them wrapped as a present with coloured paper and cellophane. Easy peasy. Or so I thought. I'll simply write part of this as a list, because it was long;

  • all our paper was wrong. (yes, we DO have a limited colour assortment. Then again, aren't the flowers the main point?)
  • the way I wrapped the flowers was wrong; she wanted them to be like 75% visible (but then why take paper at all?)
  • the 'bouquet' didn't look full enough, so she started rearranging the flowers (you can only make 7 lisianthus look like...well, 7 lisianthus)
  • my way of wrapping che cellophane was wrong. And I didn't close it over the top (d'uh, it's 35 degrees. Flowers need air too.) At this point she grabbed the half-finished ordeal and started pointing and pulling at the cellophane
  • none of our ribbons were the right colour. Didn'tI have pink? No. If I did have pink, it would have been shown alongside the other colours.

    This is when the proper drama began. When I finish off a bouquet I tighten the ribbon in order to keep the flowers from moving around too much and also to prevent the paper from slipping down, and then I tie a bow. After making the bow I 'shred' the ribbon in order to make a more fluffy bow, and then tape the long ends of the bow to the top of the paper. This, apparently, was totally unacceptable. The woman started telling me how I was incompetent, and had to be stupid thinking she wanted a bow. At this point I was all O_O. Also, apparently, I should never have gotten my job. She had had flowers giftwrapped in our store before by someone else; when I told her that we all wrap differently I was told that the other person did a beautiful job, while mine was hideous.

    I really wanted to tell her that if she was to be such a bitch she could take her money elsewhere, but I kind of couldn't. I need to talk to my supervisor about this on Monday, because I don't tolerate being talked to like that. You'd think that adults had enough sense to treat people with respect, but no. If she had said "That wasn't quite what I had in mind, would it be possible to [...]" it would have been a-ok, but calling me incompetent and stupid because I wrap flowers the way I do and make bows on them is just...childish.

    rant over now.
