Wishing everyone reading this a belated merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous 2006!
Feels like I haven't updated for aaaaaages, I've been so busy with work, choir, Christmas socialising, etc. Needless to say, my RPing has suffered the most, so that needs some thinking about. I've just completed my first
Gravi drabble but I need to continue everything else, particularly my K/Y hugs, which have lain dormant for over 3 months!
Plenty of nice Xmas presents, including
this top, some wine glasses, a glue-gun (!), books, the latest Royksopp CD, couple of DVD box sets, two 2006 diaries (so now I have 3...), a custom-designed Weebl&Bob t-shirt (yay!), a balloon-modelling kit and some other random stuff.
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Gave myself hideous scars on my knees! Went to a baseball game.
2. Did you keep your New Years resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Can't honestly remember what they were, so I probably didn't keep them. Setting attainable goals for 2006.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No one super-close, but at least 5 people/couples I know had children.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
Canada, Scotland.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
A PhD.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory and why?
7/7 London bombings.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Dropping 2 dress sizes. Might seem kind of vain, and I suppose I should concentrate more on getting fit, but my size was really beginning to depress me in 2004.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not yet completing my PhD thesis.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Far too many two-wheeled vehicle accidents!
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My new computer (even though the fan is currently making weird noises...).
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
I don't think anyone's actions have surprised me in a positive way this year.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My parents, who still fight like children - I can see where I get my antagonistic streak from.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Holiday in Canada and my computer (don't have much money overall).
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Meeting new and old friends while in Canada.
16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
"Filthy Gorgeous" ~ Scissor Sisters
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Much happier! I'd just moved out of my boyfriend's flat this time last year, although I had spent a groovy few days up in Edinburgh for Hogmanay.
ii. thinner or fatter? Two dress sizes thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? About £2000 worse off.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
More work on my thesis. More work in general. Need more money.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procastinating. Wasting time on the internet. I need to learn to "work" more efficiently.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent Christmas at home with my family, as usual.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
No, it's not something I think I'm capable of at the moment.
23. How many one night stands?
None, but a couple of flings.
24. What was your favorite TV program(s)?
ER, West Wing.
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No, there are very few people that I hate.
26. What was the best book you read?
I read a lot of books, but not one stands out. I must read carp!
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Choral music by the composer Herbert Howells.
28. What did you want and got?
A holiday, a new computer, a part-time job, a car.
29. What did you want and not get?
A PS2 (can't afford it).
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Films haven't been all that great this year, but I really enjoyed War of the Worlds.
31. What did you do on your birthday?
Visited my grandfather in hospital.
32. What one thing would have made your year more satisfying?
More progress on my PhD thesis.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
As usual, comfortable and appropriate to the occasion/weather.
34. What kept you sane?
Internet access and all my new internet buddies kept me from dying from boredom, although it also kept me somewhat from concentrating on my "real" work. My new job keeps me more in touch with "real life", but also keeps me away from the internet of an evening.
35. Which celebrity did you fancy the most?
None.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Changes to drinking and public smoking laws in the UK.
37. Who did you miss?
My friends in London.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Undoubtedly
ayame_san999 - we had a fantastic time in Toronto in September!
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
That I'm really a very fortunate person and that to get where I want in life I'm going to have to work that bit harder and act that bit smarter, i.e. apply myself more.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"You don’t make no effort no not like you should" from Lazy by Deep Purple.
2005 was the year that:
- I rediscovered my love for jewellery-making
- I joined the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus
- I completed my first RPG on my own
- I discovered a passion and talent for writing fanfiction
- I wrote my first website from scratch and taught myself PHP and SQL
- I visited Canada for the second time
- I became a part-time barmaid for the third time
- I attempted to get over the most influencial relationship of my life
Heh, all these things make me happy, but they're not exactly progressing me through life. I'm not big on keeping new year's resolutions, but I realise that I've pretty much pissed away 2005. It's not worth getting depressed about, but makes me see what I need to do with 2006. My main aim will be to regain my independence. With that in mind, my main goals will be to finish my goddam PhD thesis, get a proper job and move out of my parents' house. Shouldn't be too hard, but I'm such a lazy biatch! ^__^
Anyhoo, hope you're all well, and happy, and sussed. xx
