The sound of my heels clicking as I walked across the floor of my office was even starting to get on my nerves at this point. Don't know why I'm pacing, when I could be sitting, legs crossed, at my desk, anyway. Well, besides the fact you never know when one of our new bosses could be dropping in. And with Angelus as CEO, they don't even need an

Opening the door, I walked inside and closed it behind me. I grinned at her as I walked over to the desk and dropped two folders onto it. She raised a brow at me and I shrugged.
"Stop pacing. You're going to wear tracks in the floor and then our very gracious CEO will know something is up." I said, rolling my eyes to indicate my mistrust. "Those happen to be our files." I said, dropping my voice. God knew they had all of our offices bugged. Very mistrusting here, so I learned.
"That would be the reason for my lateness, of course. Resource Department seems to be backed up since the change in CEO's. Apparently, there are some things that are more important then law around here now, so I had to do the work myself."
Which I hated. I mean, they did hire secretaries for a reason.
"So. Anything I should know about?" I asked, raising a brow. Not that there wasn't ...

Paranoid and condescending. I'm not sure whether to be impressed or show her how it's really done. Yeah. so I said she's one of the most together people in the place. There aren't really a lot of competents around here now days now are there?
I crossed my arms and turned to look at her, or should I say down on her? This is my playground, she's just lucky I haven't kicked her out yet.
"Look sweetie, I'll pace if I want to pace. And you don't have to lower your voice in here. There's not a bug in the place. And if there is I've taken enough counter-measures to keep them busy for quite some time"
I listened to her little rant about how she had to do her own work. While I agreed with the sentiment, my main thought was boo-hoo, do you have any idea what I've had to do in this job? Thank your lucky stars that doing your own paperwork is the lowest you've yet to sink. Of course I learned long ago, cat fights aren't the way to make friends. Unless of course, you're trying to make friends with one of the boys. But that's an entirely different subject isn't it?
"You mean beside the fact we're now up a slayer on the side of the vampires and Lindsey's been bedding Angel's boy wonder? Not really. I think the best way to go at this point would be to develop a plan. And I don't mean just idle talk."

I took a seat in the chair across from her desk, eager to make this look more like a meeting and less like a conspiracy theory, which I'm pretty sure is what she was getting at. It seems that Lindsey has his own alliances here, and one can't exactly align herself with the vampires, no matter how hard she tries. Crossing one leg over the other, I folded my hands on my lap and listened to her.
I had to admit, I'd learned quite a bit from her. And she was one of the very few people around here who, as long as you gave her some respect, she wouldn't sell you out as fast as others.
"Wait. What? Lindsey and Connor? Hmm." I said, a look of shock passing on my face before I shrugged it off. I forgot about the security monitors. Next time I'll do my homework more thoroughly.
"Okay, shock and .. well whatever else it is aside, can't say I saw that one coming. What kind of plan are we talking about here, Lilah? Cause I'm open to any suggestions." Or more importantly, who were we planning on bringing down.

LA, the world; really didn't matter. What did was the power; the control. Something that had unjustly been snapped out from under me. And I want it back; now. Of course one has to be patient. Or so they say. Patience never was a virtue I was big on. Then again, not really sure I was big on any of them.
"For the time being, I'd say our main concern is Angelus, followed by Darla. Spike's well, rather incorporeal at the moment, not mention ensouled. So he's no threat. And Drusilla, well... So that pretty much takes care of the vampires. Then we're left dealing with Faith. Bad girl gone good, gone bad again. Tragic story. Wonder how a certain former lover of mine would react to hearing that news. He probably wouldn't be too happy with her..."
I looked over to Eve. Had to make sure she wasn't over there doodling her name in little hearts. You never know with the new ones.
"Also we're gonna have to stay a step ahead of McDonald. He's already got allies. That's something you need to learn. Don't be afraid to use the good guys to your advantage. Sometimes," Well, in my experience, at least, "you'll find that they're more likely to give you what you need than anyone who's supposedly on your own team."
Yeah. We had a lot of work to do. I gave Eve a good hard look in the eyes before continuing. The exact reasoning behind that decision? Couldn't tell you. Although it does seem to shake people a bit.
"Now, I have a few ideas myself. But why don't we hear what you have first? Never know what might be useful."

"Well I'd say hey, let's try and make them work against each other, but they're not exactly the good guys and that doesn't exactly work with them." I said, sighing.
Tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, I paused, thinking. This was going to be a lot more complicated then I would have liked, but I loved a challenge.
"We can trust each other here, Lilah, right? I mean, as much as you can trust someone at Wolfram and Hart." I asked her, raising a brow and giving her a look. "Because I don't want to go into something like this half-assed."
Which was true. Cause the reprecussions for something like this? Yeah. Worse then death. I would probably choose the death over the whole torture thing that Angelus and his little family was so fond of.
"And I do have ideas. I just need to know that I can rely on you. And you can trust me. Don't worry about that."
Okay. So normally speaking to someone who had more power then I did here like that was a bad bad idea. But what we were talking about was even bigger, badder idea. So I wasn't really caring at the moment. Let her bitch at me all she wanted too. But my damn life was at stake with this plan of ours.
Ugh. Trusting people. Never really big on that, but I'd guess I'd have to be now, huh?

I'd forgotten what working with low levels was like. Not that Eve was a low level, exactly. But she was beneath me and if she expected me to start pretending I had respect for her now, she was sorely mistaken.
"Who else can you trust? Senior partners? Hate to tell you sweetie but they aren't standing in line to do you any favors. Or maybe Angelus? Darla? Or maybe the one that twirls about the halls talking to the halls. She's a keeper. Of course I seem to have landed in her favor so if you plan on crossing me I'd find a different ally... Of course there is always Lindsey. If you don't mind sharing him with the witch, the boy, and the boy's psychotic mother...Let's face it. Lindsey, is a whipping boy. Always has been. Always will be. The only difference is it used to be cute."
Standing up I made my way over to her. For someone that takes so much interest in themselves it amazes me how she can't even mange to keep all the hair out of her face. I tucked a remaining strand or two behind her ear and knelt down to look at her.
"In other words I'm all you have. Trust me or not, the only way you're gonna make it out of here alive, and in one piece is if you do what I say."
I was standing upright in mere second, this time fixing my own hair, and taking my time to reiterate my very simple message. True, I usually wouldn't repeat myself, but for the sake of making a point, sacrifices must be made. That stands true in many areas too. Ever heard the phrase you have to spill a little blood? Ah, memories...
“For example if I say 'Eve tell me your ideas, because I'm being kind enough to humor you, instead of adding your name to a list', you should tell me your ideas. No questions. And if you do that, in return, well, if the word you prefer is trust, you can trust me.”
