I think one of the worst feelings I've ever encountered is believing someone who is so obviously lying to you and missing or ignoring every not so subtle hint along the way. You want to believe the best in people? Well, don't. I'm not saying this to be negative. I'm just saying Don't. Be. Dumb. Or maybe I'm saying don't be trusting. Or make people prove themselves. Make them jump through hoops, even if you don't know them. ESPECIALLY if you don't know them. Even if they seem genuine. Even if it's not your first instinct to distrust people. You don't have to change, per se. Just alter a few details. Because you're from a small southern town, but you're in a big northern city now. And people lie. They tell you what you want to hear because they have motives. What I'm saying is, don't assume you're the exception. And even if you are, you're not.
Furthermore, I think one of the worst qualities in a person is the ability to lie to another for your own benefit. The ability to manipulate situations so carefully and carelessly at the same time. The ability to play on someone else's emotions. The ability to promise a future, but only desire a night.
I think it's time to assume every act of kindness is a manipulation because that's all that's been proven as of late.
Montana seems pleasant this time of year.
