And when Chanyeol takes a bite of Gaelgorn bread, rich and wonderful, the taste of honey feels like home.

I SWEAR!!!! For the first round BAE had some amazing fics! I think all the long fics were amazing! (though I only read a few, but the feedback on the long fics I saw was really good. I still have to read all of them. BACK TO THE POINT NOW-) I'm to going to comment on everything in the exact order it is in my brain: SCRAMBLED!
ChanBaek: I don't know what this says about me but I'm thinking about the first time they almost fucked and I can't get the image out. Holy fuck! It was great LOL. I have a thing for that kind of thing. LOL. I think I lost my filter and am going to write every kind of stupid thing. shit. ok. nm. deep breaths. The best thing I found about ChanBaek here was the growth. There was always something from the beginning, a little spark, oooohhhh the sexual tension! And it didn't immediately bloom into anything for them, in fact, they were held apart by circumstance and beliefs and their personalities.
I love LOVE LOVE character growth/development, relationship development. I just love development in general because you accompany the characters on their trials and see the journey that shapes them. Stories with growths have always been more dear to me than those where things were already established. So you must have figured out by now that I loved your fic. I also loved how you didn't rush Chanyeol and Baekhyun into anything. In fact, the story unraveled everything in it's own time. Baekhyun made his appearance so late, I was honestly surprised. But then when his feelings did burst out, they were greatly timed and understandably because of their situation. It was lovely (╥﹏╥) and we got a sexy confession out of him huzzah!!!
In contrast to those two, I felt that Joonmyun and Jongdae's relationship was a little bland, although more deep and meaningful. Maybe because I was more attentive towards chanbaek? Or maybe because their attraction was immediate and I didn't see it growing too much? All eyes on chanbaek, you know ;; sorry ;; I think that's why, even though the scene where Joonmyun dies was frighting for me, their separation wasn't. It was what became of Jongdae that hurt ;; It was a startling reminder about regrets, last-time things, could-have-been's, should-not-have-been's.
Another lovely thing here was the different people coming together from different kingdoms. They weren't all on friendly terms and the story moved greatly, keeping that idea in mind. Relationships were strained, barely holding things together, and little happy moments were easily overshadowed by everyone's differences and lack of belief in everyone else. In fact, thinking back on the fic, I don't think I can remember everyone sharing a warm moment, I only remember the fights they had (though give me five more minutes and I'll probably remember).
Which leads to my next point about how wonderful the change was by the end (╥﹏╥) Even close to the end of their journey, everyone wasn't exactly best friends, and the only reason they stayed together was because of a mutual objective. But on every obstacle they faced, they seemed to grow a little closer, a little more tolerant. When the survivors finally stumble out, you could feel how much EVERYTHING had changed, and they were really bros ;;
AND MAN EVERY DYING PERSON DIED SUCH A HORRIFYING DEATH LIKE WHYYYY? And the visuals! Oh my god DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON THE VISUALS!!! Everything in my head was so clear, so goddamn clear! Like, you painted their world with your words and it was AMAZING! I loved it! The cities, the magic, the mist and it's creatures, even the deaths and golden, oh, golden!! wait wut?
I actually expected this to be some romance-adventure fic, but it was a really good and different one. The priority wasn't romance, it was saving their world and cheers to you for carrying it out so amazingly! Now that I read the summary again, it just seems so beautiful for some odd reason.
WAAAH thank you so much for this comment ;;;; Yes the most important thing for me is character growth and development and I HATE rushing things.
Which was actually the point and I LOVE that you pointed out the difference between chanbaek & suchen because suchen acted a lot differently -- they were attracted to each other and jumped into some panic relationship based on "holy shit we need each other we're going to die" so when that was ripped away from Jongdae he just sort of collapsed because "Holy shit everyone's going to die" you know? He had this false idea of some kind of twisted love.
Thank you so much for this comment and for reading ;;; gah yes the gold....
and yeah.. tbh when I was writing I originally thought of not having a romantic plot at all .. I kept stopping and going "fuck where do I put the romance"
