States I have been in in the last 5 days

Ohio (oberlin.yup)

Illinois (not a fan. traffic. the only traffic we hit the whole trip, however)

Wisconsin (no impressions of it whatsoever)

Minnesota (silos exist! part of it is really pretty. part of it is really flat. there were little farmhouses and silos, and it looked just like toy farms, or like the place where the x-files movie is. fun to see. i seriously didn't know that kind of farm existed. and i saw the mississippi river. and we stayed with brian, who seriously lives in the middle of nowhere, on a dirt road. kind of awesome.)

South Dakota (expected it to kind of suck, but it didn't. there were hundreds of miles of signs for wall drug, which is this giant very old and and now very touristy drug store in the town of wall. the first sign was 322 miles to wall drug! the signs were excellent. wall drug was silly. we stayed with maria in rapid city, and it was actually a nice place. and then the next day we went to bear country, this drive-through wildlife park thing, and i saw lots of animals INCLUDING BABY BEARS WHICH ARE THE CUTEST THING EVER OH MY GOD. i really wanted to take one home but brad wouldn't let me. nor would anyone else, i'm sure, but oh my god, the cuteness. think a cross between living teddy bears and puppies. only cuter. and the wrestled and climbed trees and fell out of trees and were so cute. so i still hate south dakota's politics, but i kind of like the state. also, maria flew to san francisco the day after we left south dakota. meaning that she beat us here.)

Wyoming (the first half of it was pretty flat and boring though, and that's where i left my bag and we had to drive an hour back to get it. oops. i felt really bad about that, but brad was very nice about it. then the second half - oh my god gorgeous. so gorgeous. wow. we went through yellowstone and grand teton national parks. they were beautiful, though i actually think the 50 miles right before yellowstone may have been the most beautiful. and in yellowstone we saw three wolves. two of them crossed the road. and later we saw a moose. and lots of buffalo. also, we went to the chuckwagon show and had food and saw a show and the western songs were awesome, and they were great, and then they got all jesus-y and patriotic for the last two songs and we left. it's funny, but the patriotism makes me more uncomfortable than the jesus. probably because it's implied that we're all allowed to have different religious beliefs, but we're ALL super patriotic and yay america, and i'm kind of conflicted about that. also brad was quite possibly the only vegetarian in a crowd of a couple hundred people. oh! and in this crowd of a couple hundred, we sat across from someone who is friends with eli s. at oberlin. small world, right?)

Idaho (no real impressions of the state, it was dark when we got there, we slept, left early in the morning. i lost my voice sometime in Idaho. like, totally lost it. I can kind of whisper and kind of squeak, but not very well. brad laughed at me a lot. probably because it's funny. but not being able to sing along is kind of sad.)

Nevada (boring. boring boring boring casinos desert boring boring are we home yet?)

California (yay!)
