There weren’t any niceties. Blunt, direct, to the point.
“When are you leaving?”
There was no way Oishi could say no to such an opportunity. An assistant to a doctor in one of the best hospitals in Japan. No way.
“I don’t know.”
His parents had already bought a plane ticket for exactly two months from now at 11:25 A.M.
“Well, we would have had to have said a good-bye like this someday.”
“Yeah, I guess so.”
They didn’t speak to each other for the rest of the day.
Neither of them knew what to say.
