The lights flickered briefly, then went out entirely. The class was immediately more alert, students actually sitting up in their seats, glancing around anxiously. Touya sighed heavily and leaned back in his chair. Why the fuss? They’d had power outages before, no big deal. Either it went back on or it didn’t-it wasn't like it made that much of a difference to him.

Unfortunately, the now dark room prevented him from doing his homework. He was sitting opposite the windows, which let in only marginal light anyway since the day was cloudy. A furrow formed on his brow as he frowned; he’d wanted to finish that homework in school, so he wouldn’t have to do it at home. There were too many other things to concentrate on there-bills, cleaning, cooking, work…

The power must have gone out because of the rainstorm, he thought, as thunder rumbled loudly in the distance. Moments later a bright flash of lightning lit the sky, eliciting a few panicked screams.

“You’re in university,” Touya muttered. “Get a grip on yourself.”

The professor nevertheless continued his droning lecture, and Touya found himself without anything to do but grudgingly take notes.

“To-ya!” Yukito called, waving as he jogged across the slick pavement towards Touya after class. Touya smiled and waved back, pausing to wait for the other to catch up.

“How was class?” Touya asked conversationally as they began their wet stroll back home.

“It was interesting.” How like Yukito, to be so diplomatic. Touya knew that he was essentially saying that most of the class had been interested, but he had spent the entire lecture daydreaming.

They idly chatted about class and their plans for the rest of the day being somewhat ruined by the rain. Touya had only been planning on work and being home in time to make dinner, but Yukito had hoped to garden a little and do his homework in the sun. The rainstorm was admittedly unusual for the season, so it wasn’t unreasonable for Yukito to have made such plans.

“Eh, Yuki, don’t you have an umbrella?” Touya asked, reaching over to push wet bangs out of Yukito’s face. Yukito smiled at the casual affection and shook his head.

“I forgot it this morning. I even remember thinking that it might rain, since it was so cloudy, but then I got excited about something else and forgot.”

Touya grinned. That was Yukito for you… Yukito sighed and removed his glasses, lifting the hem of his jacket to wipe the lenses on his shirt beneath.

“You know you should use the cleaning cloth the optometrist gave you, right?” Touya chided teasingly.

Yukito, of course, took it rather seriously. “I know, but I don’t have it with me right now. It’s in my glasses case, which is at home… next to the umbrella…” he trailed off sheepishly, brown eyes glowing.

He moved to replace the light wire frames on his face when Touya reached out to stop him. He took the glasses from Yukito’s fingers and slipped them into the pocket of his sweatshirt, hoping that they would keep relatively dry. If not-oh well, the cleaning cloth was somewhere at home. Yukito looked puzzled for a moment, then attempted to reach into Touya’s pocket to take back his vision. Touya playfully batted his hand away and started walking faster, so that Yukito had to scramble to keep up.

“To-ya!” he whined a little, reaching out again. “I can’t see without those!”

“Don’t worry. As long as you stay by me, you won’t get lost.”

“But!”

Touya suddenly stopped moving, freezing in the middle of the sidewalk. A surprised Yukito stopped abruptly as well, coming to stand in front of Touya, as if to prevent him from going any further. He glanced around quickly, wondering if they were blocking any traffic, but they were the only ones in sight. As he turned back to Touya he suddenly found soft fingers cupping his chin, tilting his head upwards. Breathlessly he found himself kissing Touya, their bodies moving ever closer to each other until Touya’s strong arms held Yukito tightly against him.

“To…ya…” Yukito murmured, leaning into the taller boy.

“Besides,” Touya whispered in Yukito’s ear. “I can’t kiss you nearly as well when they’re on.”

------------

“Let’s find out what else works better without your glasses,” Touya murmured huskily into Yukito’s neck as he caressed the soft flesh. Yukito’s soft moan was drowned out by the door banging loudly as the force of their bodies colliding into it sent it into the wall behind. Roughly Touya kicked off his shoes and half dragged his partner into the house, using his foot to close the door loudly behind them.

The rain began again, loud and pounding against the gray cement. The even pattering against the window strummed a sensual serenade as Touya gently pushed Yukito back onto their bed, slowly sliding a knee between his legs. The drops spilling and crashing against the smooth invisible panes cast a pale shadowy glow over the room as Yukito arched his back and clung to Touya’s shoulders. Wan light filtered in and out of the clouds and raindrops and glass and curtains, finally coming to rest on pale fresh-kissed skin, illuminating eyes shining with love and longing.

“Tell me,” Touya purred, “If you still need your glasses to see.”

Yukito responded with a sharp whimper and a subtle shift of his hips. Touya grinned slyly and leaned over Yukito, pressing their bodies against each other, their eyes locked together.

“Good. I want to be able to gaze into your beautiful eyes, Yuki.”

-------------

He pushed open the window, letting the cool air flow into the darkened room, the wan light of the cloudy sky the only illumination. He stood at the window for a few moments, hands outstretched to catch the glistening beads on the pads of his fingers. A faint smile drifted across his features as he breathed deeply, the gentle pitter patter filling his mind. Then he backed away, shutting the screen, retreating to the quiet solitude of the little world beyond the glass, where just the two of them laughed and lived and loved, where they could see into the depths of each other’s souls with vision unclouded.

The glasses lay forgotten on the floor, flung from the pocket of Touya’s sweatshirt, lenses splattered faintly with the pattern of raindrops.
