Summary: Things can never be the same, like before... but maybe they can give it another try.
When Jacob found out about Bella’s plans to marry Edward, he just ran. He had barely enough time to tie his shorts on his ankle before he phased. He didn’t know where he was running and it didn’t matter. He just needed to feel the wind through his fur and wanted to forget everything else.
When he finally stopped, he looked around and saw he was still in the woods and had been running giant circles. He ended up on the far end of their territory. He took a deep breath. Running had helped, but he still felt the pain of a heart broken in pieces. He sat down, pulled his knees up, hugged them, put his head down and cried.
Back at the reservation, the pack was starting to worry. They had gone to his house to pick him up to do some cliff diving and only found his father. He told them that Jacob ran off after finding out about Bella’s upcoming wedding. Sam told everyone to give Jacob some time to process this. But when no one was looking, Paul sneaked out to go and find Jacob. He figured it wasn’t an order Sam gave, more like a request. But he knew Jacob better than all of them, better than they knew.
It took Paul a while to find him. He tried to follow Jacob’s sent, but that just seemed to have him running in circles. So it took him about an hour to find Jacob. He didn’t approach him at first, just stood behind a tree watching him. Jacob was sitting there, with his knees pulled up just staring into the pace in front of him.
“I know you’re there. Just come out” Paul heard him say. And he figured he might as well go over. Slowly he came from behind the tree and walked towards Jacob. “Hey" He said and sat down beside Jacob. "I happened to pass by and saw you sitting here" "Yeah right, like I believe that" Jacob responded. he always did know when Paul was lying.
“Look, Jacob, I heard about Bella” He said softly while putting his hand on Jacobs shoulder. “I’m really sorry man, but you know how I feel about her.” He slowly let his hand go down Jacobs back as a comforting gesture. “She was never right for you"
“Paul, I know. But I’m really not in the mood for this” Still he leaned into Pauls touch. He turned his head towards Paul and saw him looking back. When Paul started leaning in, he didn’t push him away. Paul slowly put his lips on Jacobs. When he felt Jacob move his lips, he kissed him a little stronger. But when he tried to get Jacob to open his lips so he could push his tongue in his mouth, he felt jacob pry himself away and slowly push Paul off.
“Paul, don’t. We can’t. Things have changed. It’s not anymore like before the vampires, before we shifted, before….” “Like before Bella” Paul finished for him, letting his head fall into his hands. Jacob was right. They used to be carefree young kids. He remembered those times. One night they had gotten slightly drunk and had ended up kissing and fooling around on the beach. For both of them it had been the first time they had ever kissed someone. The weeks after that, they had found several opportunities to see each other again. They had never gotten further than kissing and touching. And then the vampires came and Paul had shifted for the first time. Paul had started to hand out with Sam and Jacob had thought he didn't like him anymore. Then Bella came and well, Jacob had only her on his mind.
Paul turned back to Jacob and put his arm around him to pull him closer. "I know things have changed, Jacob. But some things stayed the same. I still... have feelings... for you". Paul stilled to see Jacob's reaction, but he just kept looking in front of him so he continued "We are not the same kids anymore, and I know things can't be like before... but I would like to see what we can be right now". He heard jacob take a deep breath. Jacob turned his head towards Paul. "Peul, this is not the right time". Paul knew he was right "I just needed you to know that you are not alone; Ant I will wait for you. You know where to find me". Paul put a gentle kiss on Jacob's shoulder, stood up and started to walk away. he heard a whispered "Thank you" as he started to disappear into the trees.
The following weeks, Jacob had been thinking about Paul a lot. Paul is a really sweet guy. Sure he has a temper, but Paul always seems to know what Jacob needs. Slowly he had made his decision. He really wanted to know what Paul and him could be.
Paul stood at the top of the cliff, ready to jump when he heard “Wait”. He turned around and saw Jacob running towards him. Jacob stopped a few feet away from him “Let’s jump together”. Jacob closed the space between them and took Paul’s hand. They turned to the water. “One, two, three”. Hand in hand they jumped of the cliff, landing in the water feet first. Only letting go of each other’s hand to swim to shore. Side by side they settled down on the beach. This was where they had shared their first kiss a few years ago, before… . Paul took Jacob’s head between his hands and turned Jacob towards him. Paul leaned in and kissed him. This time Jacob didn’t push him away. He put his hand on the back of Paul’s head to angle him better. Jacob opened his mouth and moaned when Paul’s tongue slid in. They kissed like that until they needed air. Neither knew where this would lead, but the sure wanted to find out.
