my wife wrote this and posted it on her myspace, so i figured i should post it here too!
It's your gay duty...so do it!
"In a hundred years of film, homosexuality has rarely been depicted onscreen. When it has, it has been to laugh at, feel pity for, or invoke fear."
The majority of "gay" movies, even ones that receive reviews containing the phrase "Oscar worthy," only open in limited theaters. I had to drive at least an hour to theaters in other towns to see movies like Monster, Boys Don't Cry, and Frida. And those movies were Oscar winners! They didn't get the attention needed to keep them in the theaters more than a few weeks until they won awards.
Now on December 9th, the movie Brokeback Mountain opens in theaters everywhere. If you don't know about this movie, then you should. It is a story about the love between two men who are played by Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal. Randy Quaid, Michelle Williams, and Anne Hathaway are also in it. It is a "gay" movie in the mainstream, finally, and with a mainstream cast. Support for this movie is needed! There is Oscar buzz about this movie, but that is not enough to keep it in the theaters and prove to the world that movies like this are needed and appreciated. Go see it! On opening weekend! Twice! Tell everyone you know to go see it too!
I better see you there!
(NEW INFO)
Well the production company pulled the movie last min. and now they are opening it Friday the 16th (or so they say) I dont know if it will open everywhere but you still need to see this movie so find a place. We will still be going to pleasant hill to see it. this theater is really cool inside. i want to see you there.
