In My Time of Dying Coda's

There have been surprisingly few codas written to the episode (possibly because any of the post Devil's Trap fics work just as well for this episode) but here are the best of the stories out there:

Bullets for the Passed Away by mikhale

Gen

Short, sharp and painfully raw look at Sam and a practically suicidal Dean coping with their father's death. Features a somewhat unnecessary reference to an original character which momentarily pulled me out of the story (unless the piece is part of an established universe I'm not keen on authors cross referencing characters from their other stories. It's just too cute).

After Tomorrow by merepersiflage

Sam/Dean

Sam and Dean buring themselves in each other in order to deal with the pain of losing John. The sense of desperation and agony that the boys are feeling is strongly conveyed.

Dealing with Life (the Winchester Way) by clex_monkie89

Gen

Sam and Dean grieving their own way and being constantly surprised by what reminds them of their father. Dean's final breakdown is very well portrayed. Features the same original character as Mikhale's story.

All I Want for You to Do is Take My Body Home by keepaofthecheez

Sam/Dean

Agonisingly painful piece with a drowning in grief Dean performing a frantic blowjob on his brother as a desperate means of trying to anchor himself. Dean pov.

Meet Me in the Middle of the Air by Mona1347

Sam/Dean

Companion piece to keepaofthecheez's story featuring the Sam pov. Beautifully sad.

SPN remix recs

SPN remix was a challenge for authors to remix existing Supernatural fics and the results are astonishing. The site is here, and you should definitely check out the stories as they are all superb. Here are my favourites (I'll update the post once I know who the authors are):

But Sometimes They Fly By .

Dean/OFC Dean/OMC

Remix of The Days Don't End Here my Friend by trollprincess

The original story killed me dead - immortality as tragedy with a seemingly immortal Dean outliving everyone he loves. The original piece was Dean's pov. The remix focuses on all of Sam's descendants who keep Dean company over the generations. I love how with only a paragraph or less for each person the author skillfully gives each of Dean's companions distinct personalities and quirks and tells the tale of their lives. The thought of Dean being continually left by those in his life because living with him and the hollowness inside him is too hard for them just breakes my heart. Deeply, profoundly haunting story which lingers long after you've read it.

There the Crevasse (Remix)

Sam/Dean

Remix of There the Crevasse by monkiedude

Remix of one of my favourite recent Sam/Dean stories with Dean being revealed as telepathic. The original was Sam's pov - the remix focuses on Dean. Fun, angsty and hot.

Go the Other Way (The Liquor in the Front remix)

Sam/Dean crossdressing

Fun remix of Go the Other Way by sevenfists. Sam pov - the third person approach takes a little getting used to as a narrative device but this is entertaining enough.

Landmarks (Wonders Bright and Rivers Remix)

Sam/Dean

Remix of Landmarks by estrella30. Gorgeous story with Sam and Dean battling an evil cat possession and showing how Dean always remembers the important things. Wonderful Dean characterisation.

That Bite to Take by wheebubbles

Sam/Dean

Normally I'm not a fan of evil possessed Sam stories as I've yet to find an author who has managed to write evil sam with any degree of subtlety. But this story is surprisingly effective. Sam is possessed and promptly begins to systematically torture Dean both physically and sexually. And Dean..just takes it. The concept of a Dean who is willing to accept whatever poor treatment Sam dishes out to him simply because he's terrified to be alone is painful. Dean as abused spouse. Difficult to read and with a suitably bleak ending.

Under Sounds of Feathers by spinnyroses

Sam/Dean

I'm a sucker for wingfic and this is a fascinating tale which has Dean sprouting wings which don't stay with him for long.An intriguing tale which I hope the author continues.

Keeper's Post by eighth_horizon

Gen

Sam and Dean investigate an attack on a group of teenagers in Wisconsin. Typically strong narrative and wonderful Sam/Dean characterisation.
