The mermaid girl was totally tuneless wasn't she but I guess that wasn't really what it was about...and the bits I saw of the fire thing (between trying to not smell the smoke and not actually see the fire were impressive.)

We definitely had the best seats in the house where we were too...any further forward and we wouldn't have seen all the inbetween stuff.

It was a real shame for you that the Stage Fright section featured fire because it was just amazing - I'm incredibly impressed that he did that.

I wasn't overwhelmed with Mermaid Girl but then it's not about that at all.

And yeah - we had cracking seats - any further forward and we would have missed a lot.

In a way it was like a musical theatre production though(I almost got my Barnum!!)

Its the best thing I've seen him do in a long time (probably since NT Anything Goes actually - apart from concerts / singing festivals etc)

I thought if Barnum too when he was doing the fire juggling thingy. This way he gets to challenge himself and do new things which he loves but within a tv schedule so he's still got plenty of time for Scott and friends/family whcih I guess he wouldn't have if he were working nights in a play and Scott working during the day.

But yes short of the actual concerts definitely the best thing I've seen him in. Jack is Jack but as a vehicle for John's talents it was sbolutely perfect.

Well Capt Jack is Capt Jack and doesn't showcase John's talent particularly well. It's an iconic character played by a pretty man and people like Jack because of that (and I'm not knocking it)

This was John using the real talent he has though.

Captain Jack is a character John LOVES playing. He was born for the role and I think it showcases his talents brilliantly.

So?

So. You think he's not using his "real talent" ... what do you consider his "real talent" since you know better.

No darling I think its you that believes you know better than everyone in the entire world and believe noone else is entitled to have a view..and frankly I am not prepared to engage in conversation with you.

Feel free to continue to go and wank about me wherever you like as you have done in the past.

I just think you have a holier than thou complex where John is concerned. And you just proved my point tenfold. No skin off my nose.

...and I think you are a nasty bitch with a personal vendetta and a huge chip on your shoulder about something.

Well I think we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Sometimes the role showcases him wonderfully - sometimes he struggles considerably with the material (or indeed lack thereof ( ... )

Thank you for your reply. :D I haven't seen much else of John's, I'm slowly learning and watching youtubes. I think he's a brilliant entertainer. For alot of people captain Jack is all they know and will never experience his talents in any other way. I was lucky to see him in the panto so I get what you're saying.

If you saw him in panto you'll have seen how great he is on stage - so much stage presence. Acting wise I think how good he is depends on the material. He varies wildly in Torchwood - I personally think he does the small intimate moments wonderfully and sometimes when the script calls for him to go "big" he overdoes it. However he can be brilliant. Have you seen his episode of Hotel Babylon? He's hilarious in that and he turns a fairly skimpy part into a rather nice comic turn. But I think he sees real career longevity where the variety stuff is concerned and I'm not sure Torchwood's future is so certain. Also will Moffat use him on Who opposite Matt Smith? Not sure whether the fact that Jack will look so much older than the Doctor will work for or against any repeated appearances.

Either way on the basis of the taping I saw yesterday the show should (fingers crossed) do very well for him.

Oh wow. I simply don't agree. I don't want to start fire here (haha no pun intended) but in my opinion, Captain Jack is an incredible character played awesomely by John. There has been no one on TV like him, and that's in part to John's influence. Also, Captain Jack turned me on to the world of Who and made me a bigger JB fan in general. I don't think just any actor could bring to Jack what he does, because as we all know, John is more than a pretty face. He has a twinkle in his eye and that's what makes him a killer entertainer. It's a winning match and the kind of role he was born to play.

PLUS, Jack has, essentially, given him the opportunity to do all the stuff he's dreamed about doing in the last few years. So in that sense, it is against our best interest in knocking him.

As I sadi, I wasn't knocking it. I think the expression iconic character covered it all...it wouldn't be an iconic character if what you say wasn't the case.

I don't entirely agree with all you say there nor do I disagree with it all either. I did not say John wasn't good in the role, its just there's a huge amount more to him than just Jack and last night we saw it for the first time in a while. However I'm so fed up with the wank I'm just not prepared to debate the point with you anymore or attempt to justify my existance.
