True Puppet Love =D

XDD  ...Seriously, though, this is gonna be a very useless post.  I don't even know why I'm typing it.  I guess I feel I have to share my fangirl!squees with you.  So feel free to not even read beyond this sentence.  This post will just be for me and others who like puppets proclaiming their eternal love for each other.

This is what happens when you have no homework and no school the next day.  XD

Ok, so first off, I know I mentioned in some other post that I've recently gotten into Avenue Q.  And I have to say I absolutly adore this musical. ♥  It's funny, crack-ish, sad, risqué, and so true; plus, it has puppets!  =DD  I've heard some people say it's like a "crack induced/melodramatic version of RENT."  With this, I must agree.  RENT is very sad and moving, but Avenue Q is just...just like a Spanish soap opera of RENT.  It's great.  Anyone who hasn't seen it (or RENT, for that matter) must go see/hear it.  I have most of the songs (from both), so if you wanna hear a "sample" or something from it, just e-mail me and I can upload it for you.

Anyway, back to what I was saying: Avenue Q is my new musical obsession.  I keep listening to the songs over and over (thank God for iPods), and I never get tired of them.  But just so I can keep this post from being an entire review of Avenue Q, I'll just squee over my most favorite song from the play...  (I've included the lyrics 'cause I'm that obsessed.  ^__^;;  Also, WARNING: CONTAINS PUPPET HOMOSEXUALITY.)

[Rod]
It sure can get lonely at night.  Nicky, you awake?

[Nicky]
Is that a unicorn?

[Rod]
Ugh; he's talking in his sleep again.

[Nicky]
No, I'll wear the purple shoes-- and who painted the kitten?

[Rod]
Maybe I should just shake him.

[Nicky]
I love you Rod.

[Rod]
...What did you say?

[Nicky]
I love your little laugh.

[Rod]
Nicky, are you awake?

[Nicky]
Take off your shirt.

[Rod]
Oh, Nicholas.  Have you been shy all this time?
Have we been...hiding from each other?
I wonder...
All those nights I lay in bed
Thoughts of you running through my head

[Nicky]
I know put my earmuffs on the cookie.

[Rod]
But I never thought the things in my head
Could really happen in my bed

[Nicky]
You look like David Hasselhoff.

[Rod]
All those years I missed the signs
Couldn't read between the lines
Who'd have thought I would see the day
Where I'd hear you say
What I heard you say
And now I find
What was always in my mind
Was in your mind too
Who knew
Fantasies come true
And now I see
That what I'd always dreamed of
Was meant to be
You and me
Me and you
Fantasies come true

You and me lived in fantasy
But soon we'll be a reality

[Princeton]
Kate, that was amazing.

[Kate]
You're amazing.

[Princeton]
Heh; I want you to have this.
It's a penny I carry around with me for good luck.
It's from the year I was born, see?
Who knows, maybe it'll bring you good luck.
It did for me; I found you.
I want you to know
The time that we've spent
How great it's been
How much it's meant

[Kate]
Gosh, I don't know what to say
I'm really glad you feel that way
'Cause I'm afraid that I like you more
Than I've ever liked any guy before

[Rod]                   [Kate]
'Cause now        'Cause now

[Rod]                  [Kate]
My love            My love

[Kate/Rod]
I'm getting what I've always been dreaming of

[Rod]                   [Kate]
So are you        Ooh, baby

[Kate/Rod]
Fantasies come true

[Kate]                [Rod]
And now          And now

[Kate]               [Rod]
I swear           I swear that

[Kate/Rod]
When you want me I'm gonna be right there

[Rod]               [Kate]
To care         To care

[Kate/Rod]
For you

[Kate]
That's what I'm gonna do

[Rod]                                             [Kate]
And make your fantasies           Fantasies

[Kate/Rod]
Come true

[Rod]
Fantasies come true

[Nicky]
Uh hey, Rod, buddy.  Hey, you're talking in your sleep.

[Rod]
I thought you were talking in your sleep.

[Nicky]
No, I'm just coming to bed.
You're dreamin' is all.

[Rod]
Oh!

[Nicky]
Sounded like a nice dream, though.

[Rod]
Yes, it was a nice dream.

[Nicky]
Goodnight!

[Rod]
...Goonight, Nicky.

AAAAWWWWWW!!!!!!!  ^__^  Come on, you know you liked it!  ♥♥♥  For me, this song just hits so many of my buttons just right, that nnnggghhhh!  I...I just can't resist it.

First of all: PUPPET LOVE! ♥  OMG, how can you not love that?!  IT'S PUPPETS!  WITH LOVE!

Second: I've always been a fan of any kind of unrequited love.  Whether the other person doesn't care or it's just not possible, whatever; it makes for great material.  If you didn't catch on, Rod is a closeted homosexual (at this point in the play), and he lives with his roomate, Nicky, who, however, isn't gay (hence Rod's surprise at the beginning and dissapointment at the end).  It's just good, bittersweet angst that just pulls at your heart strings.

Third: OMG, GHEY + HET!  ^__^;;  LOL, yeah, I have to admit, the yaoi fangirl in me squeed happily when I found out that Rod was gay.  And we can't have a love song without some good 'ole fashioned boy/girl loving.  Even if they are puppets, it's still really cute.  ^__^  (It just makes me sad, though, when some people say Rod scares them during this song.  ;__;  I dunno; he doesn't scare me...)  I also felt this was a real defining, if not touching moment, for Rod because this is actually the first time Rod admits he's gay (at least obviously implies it).  Before he'd just been dening it and stuff.  But for this song, he admits he has a crush on Nicky.  You know, I just thought this was a nice way for Rod to confirm for the audience that he likes Nicky (which was something I really wanted to know).  ...Yeah, I focuse a lot more on Rod/Nicky than of Princeton/Kate in this song.

Fourth: Duet!  I f-ing love duets (really, just whenever more than one person sings) in anything!  Especially these love song duets.  (I LOVE the part where Kate and Rod both say, "My love!"  It's just so...*dies of happiness*!)  This is one of the aspects I like more about Avenue Q than RENT.  Avenue Q barely has any solo songs; at least two characters are singing at a time.  While in RENT, it's kind of half and half.  I just love harmonies and counter-melodies and things like that more than solo songs.

And Fifth (even though it's not really a reason, just an observation): This was a really nice transitional song, in my opinion.  Before this song, it was just a lot of joking and fun songs.  After this part, there's still random, funny songs, but the plot actually starts to kick in and the main conflict begins.  I think of this song as the place in between the exposition and rising action.  It's cute and happy in the beginning, but then turns kind of sad at the end.  A transition in the song also transitioning the whole pace of the play at the same time.  Real nice.  ;-)

On a whole, though, this song is just really sweet and honest and true.  (The whole musical is, really.)  It's just these two characters singing about their love for their respective friends/partners.  (I know some poeple can't really get into it 'cause Rod's singing to Nicky and everything.  >__>  They just can't see past that to see what the song is really about.  I, on the other hand, embarce Kate/Princeton and Rod-->Nicky.  ^__^)  Which is what makes the ending so sad, when you find out that Rod's was only a dream, after his whole Song of Love.  ;__;  So now this song is kind of bittersweet for me 'cause Kate is singing to Princeton and their's is real, while I know in the end, Rod's is just a dream.  If you notice in the video, Kate is singing to Princeton and looking at him, while Rod is kind of by himself and dancing and, even though he's techinically singing to Nicky, he's really singing to no one.  The subtext is just beautiful.  ;___;  (Or am I looking to deeply into this?)  And you gotta love Rod and Nicky's little dance during the interlude.  XDD  Did I mention the whole play was on crack?  So cute!

Don't worry, though; it has a happy ending (WARNING: SPOILERS).

Sadly, I can't seem to find any Avenue Q icons.  T__T  *keeps searching*
