1. FIRST NAME? Rachel.
2. ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? My grandmother's Hebrew name, possibly, although her Russian one was Elizabeth.
3. WHEN DID YOU LAST CRY? Two Saturdays ago. Uh, but in my defense, my mother can reduce anyone to tears for walking over a floor she's recently washed.
4. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? I like the pain that it inflicts on others.
5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT? None. Well, spam, in theory. Mostly due to the
great songs it's led to.
6. KIDS? Not likely.
7. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU? I keep wondering about that. Sometimes I suspect I would shun me. (Alternate answer: Yes and we would rule the world together from our backyard.)
8. DO YOU HAVE A JOURNAL? I have this. I'm not sure whether it qualifies as a journal. Most of it involves hyperlinks and happy birthday messages and things meant to be read by other people rather than personal thoughts gathered and squirreled away in one location. I also have a dream journal
here. It's pretty new, and now that I know both the niceness and the drawbacks to maintaining a LiveJournal, I think I'll be much happier with it than I am with
fairycake. There's also the part where it has a name that isn't a Douglas Adams reference gone terribly terribly wrong.
9. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT? Not really.
10. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS? I think so.
11. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP? Only if you would.
12. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL? I am partial to rye.
13. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF? What's with this assumption that I wear shoes?
14. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?
Rachael will always beat me at arm-wrestling. So will her cousin. Actually, so will everyone.
15. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM? I used to like making strawberry ice cream.
16. SHOE SIZE? It varies.
17. RED OR PINK? Red like my bleeding soul.
18. WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF? The way I've decided that change will never really happen to me in a major way. The tacit sanction (ooh tenth grade words) that I've given myself to stop even trying to be a better human being. The way I procrastinate, especially. And apologize for it and procrastinate some more.
19. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST? My middle school friends.
20. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO SEND THIS BACK TO YOU? Once is enough, I think you'd all agree. (If this question means to say Do you want everyone else to fill this out, too? then the answer is YES!)
21. WHAT COLOR OF PANTS AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING RIGHT NOW? Hideous floral pajama shorts and an invisible pair of Manolo Blahniks. I may as well aim high.
22. WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE WRITER/BOOK/MOVIE? This might be the trickiest question here. Writer: Oh I don't know. The last writer to play me like a cheap accordion (in her own words, anyway) was
epicyclical*, but my summer reading list has not been extensive. In fact, it is virtually nonexistent. Before Cassandra Claire, though, Toni Morrison blew me to Mercury and back with The Bluest Eye. She's one of those authors where you don't want to close your eyes, you're afraid that things as good as her writing don't really exist.
*actually it was
mistful, but that is forgetfulness for you.
23. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW? The sounds of suburban lawn maintenance.
24. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE? Muddy brown.

31. HAIR COLOR? Brownish.
32. EYE COLOR? Brownish.
33. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS? No, but according to my mother, everyone and their Uncle Bertie does, and You're Being Goddamn Ridiculous.
34. FAVORITE FOOD? The kind where you don't eat anything.
35. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDING? Oh, happy endings. But what exactly are they? I keep finishing works of fiction and seeing the story stretching on beyond the limits of the last word. Sometimes a book feels absolutely complete, and although you know things must go on for the characters after you close the last page, you totally ignore them and stay inside the dazed cloud of bliss and think, Yes, the far-off land of yay has now been reached. It is forever and ever and ever. I hope I get there one day. And you think the rest of their lives must be a bunch of candy-floss, but it isn't - even Ella Enchanted must have had her off days. I wonder what Ravenclaw Draco and DV Draco are doing now and it terrifies me to think that they are off living normal lives now, and are subject to the same slow decay that the rest of us are. When they're still in the confines of an epic fanfiction trilogy, you know that they have to go through some extraordinary experiences and scrape it through alive and happy. Now you can only assume that they are still living lives worth living, but they're also no longer wrapped up in involved plots. They're making breakfast and passing time and, yes. When you look at it Just So, the future is an open-ended and a terrifying place, so maybe happy is just an adjective that you assign endings when you're in a good mood while reading them.
No, I'm not especially satisfied with the conclusion that I just wrote, either, but I'll give it more thought another day.
36. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED? Pulp Fiction.

44. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD? A picture from Scott Ishbia's Bar Mitzvah. It's in a dresser in the basement, though - laptop. (The Bar Mitzvah took place on Friday, October 13, on a full moon. As far as auspicious dates go, it was a pretty fantastic one.)
45. FAVORITE SOUNDS? Rain. Especially at night.
46. WHAT DID YOU WATCH ON TV LAST NIGHT? PR aside, the only memorable television show I've ever watched was a documentary on death sauces. It was the night before my first day of high school and I couldn't fall sleep until four in the goddamned morning.
