Well I saw an Orthopedic surgeon yesterday about my knee, and the news was not great, but it was what I was expecting. He said that my knees have a tendency to subluxate (partially dislocate ) and each time they do that, I wear some of the cartilage off that side of my kneecap. I have arthritis on that side of my knee, and he said this would be a lifelong condition. I am going to go to physical therapy and he said I will have to do those exercises for the rest of my life. He is also ordering me a special brace to use. He says if the physical therapy doesn't improve the situation enough, they can do a surgery called a lateral release. It will essentially release one of the ligaments and hopefully help keep the kneecap in it's track. I will still have to do the exercises, and it isnt a cure, I may or may not see improvement from it. He said that he highly suggests that I try to do a job where I won't do a lot of pushing, lifting or pulling. He said that even prolonged standing will be hard for me. He suggested that if I go into nursing that I try to work with children, babies, or in administration, because my knee won't be able to handle the wear and tear of years dealing with adult patients. He also said I could try cortisone injections, but they would only help the pain for a couple of months. He recommends frequent rest, and gave me a note so that I can sit or stand at will while I'm at work. I am kinda depressed right now, but I'm sure with time, I will adjust, I usually do. Love to all:)
