I kindof love this play I am designing right now, Arms and the Man, once again for theater 1010. Ironically, dispite my complete lack of knowlege when it comes to staples of theatrical literature, this is the 3rd Shaw play I have designed in my short career. And this one is a gem of a read, too. Such a great first scene--the charming Bluntschli climbing in the balcony window of our leading lady, hiding from the authorities, covered in the dirt and blood of battle, and oh so handsome!

I am going a little crazy trying to figure out how to get tall millitary boots for me millitary characters (they MUST have dashing boots damnit!) but it probably would have been a little easier had I not insisted on building this dress for Raina for Acts II-III. Inspired by this beautiful painting I found. Here is the research, rendering, and dress in its beginning stages. I made it yesterday. The overall design includes lots of black and white patterned textiles, a mishmash of near-eastern and western motifs. I have first fittings tomorrow and I really hope all goes well!
