On Being Female

Sometimes being a female is stupid and frustrating and just plain annoying.

First of all, it's that we are often highly emotional. And those emotions are rarely useful:
* Jealousy - this makes you do crazy things out of anger and stupidity.
* Love - this also makes you do stupid things, mostly because your head is so full of fluffy lovey stuff that you can't think properly, and you can't see or hear the real things around you.
* Sadness - this one is the most annoying because it makes you fragile and easily upset. And you mostly end up crying; in the car, in the shower, in the storeroom at work, in the toilet, into your pillow/teddy bear. And crying = tears and messy makeup.

Which leads me to my second issue, our looks. Does any girl walk out of her house every other day thinking, "Gee I look fantastic today!?"
(1)  Make up. You can't over-do it, but if you put on too little, it doesn't look like you've made any effort with your face. And no one has the answer to the question: how much makeup is the right amount? *Being emotional tends to wreck the gorgeous results of all the effort that you put into your makeup.
(2) Clothes. We never have enough. And even when we do, they're still not good enough to wear more than 2 or 3 times, because we've "worn it to death."
(3) Underwear. We put up with some of the most ridiuclous and uncomfortable undergarments. Undies that give you a wedgie all day long, and bras that dig into our sternum, or the clips dig in at the back. And for what?!
(4) The shoes. I am guilty of loving shoes. And I, as most other women do, will put up with heels that are killing the balls of my feet, or flats that give me blisters from hell, all for the glamour and "looking good." It's almost as though you can't be fashionable if you're comfortable in what you're wearing.

Then there's the fact that most of us are sentimental. This drives me crazy. I can't throw things away, that I probably should, because I have some tiny sentimental thing attached to it. A spoon from eating gelato on a date, movie ticket stubs, lollypop wrappers, gift ribbons, broken Cds/cutlery/drumsticks/guitar strings. I don't throw those things away. Instead I stick them up on my wall as part of my montage, as a piece of me.  I am far too sentimental.

And not forgetting the need for affection that most of us have. We crave it, in its every form. Gifts, cuddles, holding hands, sitting on the couch with that guy. And I hate it but I love it. I love the way it feels, knowing when you're special to someone. That they want to be close to you and hold you and all those kinds of lovely things. It turns you into this squishy little pile of warm fuzzy feelings.  But I hate the way that this need for affection makes me do things that I wouldn't normally do, in order to get that affection.

So apart from being messy, uncomfortable and crazy, the ultimate reason why being female is stupid and annoying is because of boys.

Boys are often the ones that make us messy and crazy. Boys are the ones that we usually put on makeup and uncomfortable underwear for. Boys are the ones that we like to look good in front of, so we'll wear shoes that kill our feet, and we'd better wear that new top or skirt, because we can't wear anything that they've already seen us in.

It's human nature. But it's still stupid and annoying. It makes me wake up some mornings and think, "Geez, being a chick sucks sometimes." But not very often. And today, well, it's a good day to be a chick. Especially if you're me! hehe. And I'm gonna make the most of it!
