So I survived my end of term music concert tonight (...and now I am completely shattered!!)  It was *such* a long day today, as I was at school at 7.15am for senior band at only got home at 10.45pm after packing up stuff after the concert. To be fair, I did leave school between 4.45-6.45pm to go to the shops and have dinner/get changed at mum and dad's house, however there wasn't really any resting time.

The concert itself went off well. The audience attendance was huge and some people got stuck standing at the back - had any more people attended, they would not have fit inside our performing arts room at all. It was only ever meant to be a small event that would go for about an hour - it ended up being 21 items long and going for 2 hours *sigh*. Thank goodness it's over :)

My parents came to the concert too. Mum started chatting to another mum near her, who obviously didn't know about mum's connection to me. The mum was saying how she "really missed the old music teacher" (that I replaced) as she "really pushed the kids". Now I know that it's only a given if you're the newbie replacing someone who's been there for years, that you're never as good or as preferred as the previous person - but it's still hard not to take it personally. We are two very different people, and the old teacher was a workoholic to boot - she was at school from 6.30am to 6pm and even ran extra band rehearsals on Sunday afternoons. Basically the school was her life, whereas I'd rather have a life and work smart rather than work hard - in comparison, I know I don't push as hard. But do parents really expect us to sacrifice our own lives for the benefit of their kids? I don't think it's a fair call.

In other news there's only 8 teaching days left until holidays start and only 10 days until we leave for our girly road trip to Margaret River!!! Yay!

Ugh! I need to get some sleep.
