Tonight is the opening reception of Le Mois de la Photo (The month of photography) of which I have 6 images in from my 2 series Re-Wild and Papillon. There are a total of 14 photographers showing, to my understanding and well....I don't mean to sound like a snob but from many years of past experience, even when the organizer "chooses" the work to show, it can easily be a show where there is some seriously good art next to somebody who just picked up a camera 2 years ago and decided to do a series of flower close-ups. While that is fine for an exhibit for hobbyists or even serious hobbyists, it should be left out of fine art exhibitions. But this is not exactly necessarily a fine art exhibition, per se. I don't know. Alexandre, my friend and an amazing artist himself, is the organizer so I have to trust his vision to choose interesting and quality work.
I am bringing about a dozen copies of my book, on Alex's insistence which I hope I sell at least a few. I have now sold 113 copies out of 220 and I am so very happy, touched yet surprised that I have sold that many...and even if I don't sell out of them completely, I hope the sales do continue.
Before all this, anyway, we have to bring Finwë to the vet this afternoon. Some years ago, the doc said that he had bad hips/back and gave us meds for him but as he didn't seem to be in too much pain or discomfort, we didn't give it to him. A week or so ago, though, when I would go to pet him back there, he would meow or go after my hand and he is completely over-grooming himself. We have had to put a chair in certain places for him to get up on but he can easily get down, no problem. He is also scratching himself badly all around his neck and back of his shoulders. I don't see any redness/irritation, when he goes to the bathroom, everything is fine so that could be allergy-related. Anyway, we hope all of these things get resolved but at the same time, we have to cross our fingers that the bill is not too high.
Oh yeah, 6 months ago, one of the corners of our bed frame broke so the leg can not go in and is being propped up by a box of books and then this weekend, the metal springs of the bed frame of our sofa bed (we don't use the bed part - we bought it for guests at the origin but we use the sofa all the time) have gone kaput. The sofa bed is almost 10 years old because I purchased it once I moved here and the bed frame as well and while we need to replace these things, we can not...Sigh...I mean, I already feel like we are living in a place "ghetto-style" with broken things, and packed boxes around us but this is just ridiculous.
I just need to stay positive that tonight will be nice and that Finwë's condition can be managed alright. He is almost 10 years old as well, so while he is not OLD, he is not young, either....
