for parties at work, I usually sign up to bring cookies and/or crackers.
Dollar General has some that taste good, are cheap, and are well-received.
They have their own version of Le Petit Ecole (expensive Bahlsen cookies I used to buy years ago) that are excellent- $2 for 12 cookies. They have a bicycle raised in the chocolate.
They also have a version of the Girl Scouts' "Thank you" cookies. The thank you cookies, I bought two years in a row and then gave up on them - they had too much salt for my taste.
The Dollar General version doesn't taste salty , costs only $1, and the profits go to literacy.
The Dollar General Ritz-type crACKERS TASTE GOOD, UNLIKE SOME OTHER DOLLAR VERSION OF RITZ AT SOME OTHER STORES WITH A DOLLAR SECTION.
They have a cracker called "Entertainment crackers" in both a plain and vegetable version. The veggie ones are very tasty- the non-health food people I work with gobble them up.
DG also has a rolled up wafer cookie, not with the DG brand on it, but it costs $1 for 10 cookies=comes in hazelnut or dark chocolate, some name like Pirouttes. You can also get them, at Christmas time, in a tin can of 50 for $5 for gift giving.
A couple of those cookies with a cup of coffee is very good.
Then there are lots of dollar packages of soft cookies- brownie, oatmeal, molasses, and others.
DG also has good prices on canned foods- I like the 75 cent black beans- they add color to all kinds of dishes. When I actually cook dried black beans, they come out washed out looking, so cans are handy to add color to the dish, Likewise cans of chick peas for a quick hummus, without a lot of work.
My mother used to say "ve GET a ble" jokingly, just as my father, when driving through the country, would read a sign as 'an-ti-QUE"
Both helped me remember how to spell those words.
I still say "ve-GET-a-ble" to myself, as I type the word.
Better than how the school taught us how to remember to spell 'arithmetic'
never learned the acronym "HOMES" in school- learned that one from crossword puzzle clues.
for vegan brownie lovers, I recommend Clif Kidz Brownie Bars- good price at wal-mart.com both in the 6 pack box and the 18 count box. Free shipping for a $35 order-I order Westsoy there, too.
