wal-mart

adding 100 wild oats organics products at good prices- too often, health foods are treated like luxury items.

Health magazine did an article on dark chocolate and gave prices for a bunch of brands. The 4oz bar of 100% Ghiradelli that they say costs $3.95 is $2.23 at Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has fresh organic carrots for 98 cents a pound all the time. I puree them and add the to jars of spaghetti sauce, doubling the sauce and use pureed carrots in place of canned pumpkin in quick bread and muffin recipes. I've also added pureed carrot to my veggie burger recipe.

Speaking of baking chocolate, I used to get an 8 oz unsweetened Baker's chocolate for about $2.50 at Wal-Mart. The one ounce blocks of chocolate were individually wrapped- very convenient. Baker's has changed to a 4 ounce package on unsweetened chocolate that is all connected and hard to break off. It costs what the 8 ounce used to-so they've DOUBLED their price (at Wal-Mart AND at other stores). Makes Ghiradelli and Hershey's unsweetened baking chocolate more economical than Baker's (and both TASTE better than Baker's).

I also appreciate the 98 cent frozen pounds of several veggies (NOT organic, but neither are the ones at high priced stores at up to twice the price).
Now I've discovered that Wal-Mart has many groceries available for home delivery- a $50 or more order has free shipping. Very handy for the many items that Wal-Mart is not good at keeping in stock-often I want 4 jars of something, and they only have ONE on the shelf. I have ordered sweats, soymilk, cat food and storage totes -free shipping, no driving.
