Went to see Australia the other day. As was to be expected, it's a typical Baz Luhrman movie: larger than life, powerful drama, big emotions, great challenges, evil villains, a rather dominant score and surprisingly light-hearted at times. The story was quite engaging and I liked the way he tried to bring the beauty of Australia's nature into the picture, but somehow I wasn't devastated with it. Not as devastated as with Moulin Rouge anyway. (Gah, I was such a mess when I came out of the cinema that night!)
You know how Luhrman was still editing and cutting and tweaking only days before the movie had its premiere? I kind of felt that as I was watching. A lost shot that didn't belong there at all, a weird zooming out that seemed to slow things down, stuff like that.
But let's concentrate on the good things, right? LIKE DAVID WENHAM. I had *such* a crush on Faramir when the LOTR films were happening. And although he plays the evilest of the evil in Australia he and his Australian accent still own my soul.
AND WHAT ABOUT HUGH JACKMAN AND HIS HIPS? *fans self* I can't seem to find the perfect screenshot that I would like to insert here but just use your imagination okay? Hugh Jackman. Tanned body. Sexy cowboy/outback outfit. Sweaty. Shifting his weight on one leg. Hands on hips. dfjfkdjfdksfjjfdk Need I say more?
Note to self- go to cinema more often. Especially if I want to catch all of these:
The Dutchess
Burn After Reading
Frost/Nixon
Revolutionary Road
Slumdog Millionaire
And of course Valkyrie, Two Lovers and Milk but they are not in Belgian cinemas as of yet.
