I think me being sick has temporarily paralysed my brain or something. How else can I account for the fact that I watched Once More, With Feeling, the musical episode of Buffy The Vampire Player today? o.O
I'm hardly a Buffy fan, but nohwrah sort of challenged me to watch it about a week ago. As my head is full of phlegm I'll try to make this post as coherent as possible but I'm warning you in advance.

My first thought was that it was quite a brilliant idea, but also that I would have enjoyed it even more if I had seen lots of Buffy adventures and was familiar with the characters and the series. It would have been about six times as funny, you know. But there are limits to what a girl has to put up with when watching Buffy, i.e. lots of eyerolling and facepalming.

So yeah, loving the concept. Even though it's pure crack sometimes. Like what's up with the guy who tapdances himself on fire and the girl who bursts into song about bunnies (They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses/And what's with all the carrots/What do they need such good eyesight for anyway)
They really should do it over at Torchwood (the musical thing, not the bunnies). Apparently The Barrowman has been begging the scenarists to write a musical episode but no luck so far. :( Knowing JB, he'd probably steal the show from the first minute to the last, bless him.

But back to Buffy. A prerequisite of any musical episode must be that the actors have some singing/dancing skills up their sleeves. Well, let's just say this: it's lucky they didn't quit their day job. No Broadway material there. But it must be said that the Buffy cast is not half bad. I would even go so far as to say that the choreography is quite impressive at times.
A few of them can actually sing pretty good, in particular Anthony Head. He's probably the only reason why I watched the episode in the first place. ♥ Great voice, sometimes a bit too Backstreet Boy, but I blame the director for that. And he's Buffy's combat master, which is totally hot. No wonder the Giffy (or Bules) ship's so popular. James Marsters has a nice voice, too, (what's up with the bleached head though) and I could say the same for the girl that plays Tara.

What else? Oh, the outfits are horrible! Somehow I would have expected more from Buffy. Long leather jacket, leather boots, a skirt she knitted herself? Tsssk. And what's up with the two awkward lesbians wearing medieval uniforms and holding hands?

In conclusion, I'm really glad I watched it, though I'm not planning on rewatching it anytime soon. :D
