Today is the first day of what feels like an eternity without Merlin. :/

Yesterday's Epic Finale of Epicness gave us a decent ending of the first series (hurray for second season!) but somehow I feel like the episode didn't live up to the -admittedly- humongous expectations after the Preview of Awesomeness.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Le Morte d'Arthur, I mean, how can you not with that reference to Thomas Mallory's book and the brilliant, angsty concept of Arthur's life in danger and Merlin going out of his wits so save him. But the preview basically consisted of the first ten minutes of the episode, which kind of leaves you with an annoyed feeling of WHAT NO CRYING/HUGGING/KISSING WHEN ARTHUR FINALLY GETS BETTER???

And there were a few things that I'm not entirely happy with, such as the beginnings of a Gwen/Arthur relationship (the way he keeps calling her Guinevere makes me cringe) and the whole thing about Morgana's awakening powers which isn't properly focused on.

But nevertheless, the ep was fantastic and Uther had me in tears and Merlin saying goodbye to Arthur just about broke my heart. I'm really going to miss the boys.

And finally, because tijsmans asked, here's a small list of interesting/beautiful/hilarious/moving Merlin/Arthur fics I stumbled upon during the last week.

Title: Damsel In Distress
Author: thehoyden
Summary: Merlin was no expert, but the minstrel troupe's performance in the courtyard seemed to be going fairly well until the dragon landed on the roof of the Great Hall.

Title: Sacred Fire
Author: ebonystar
Summary: Winter bites hard in Camelot, especially around the solstice and Arthur can become very demanding; Merlin learns of a change in his duties.

Title: Prophesy (suggested by such_heights)
Author: nekare
Summary: In which Merlin dreams, and sometimes, his dreams come true.

Title: Oh, Merlin, Ever The Resourceful One
Author: sanctified_x
Summary: He squares his shoulders, looks straight at his opponent, and draws back his fist to make the first strike.

Title: Our Horizon Is The Creation
Author: honooko
Summary: There are very few moments when Merlin feels that perhaps the Dragon is not wrong.

Aarrgh, the finale's on BBC now for the second time! *hurries away*
