So I went in today to the Fish and Wildlife Service to volunteer and found out some great news (sarcasm there). They are in the process of posting my position and it looks like everything will go through and I will be officially employed (if I get the job that is) by May! May! Can you believe that!? That's just fucking awesome. I thought this was all going to go through sometime in February. Nope. I guess that's when they were hoping to get it posted which may not even happen then because there are currently a bunch of seasonal positions going through the system and this job will have to get in line, as it were. So this is definitely not optimal in so many ways.
I'm currently on unemployment which is okay. It's enough to get by on. And it will last until May but then its over. No more money left after that. So if I don't get the job then I'll be seriously hurting.
Now of course I have been keeping an eye out for other positions that are out there and I actually saw one posted on the Texas A&M jobs board for a Biological Science Technician for the BLM to trap small mammals. So this is perfect in some ways and not so perfect in others. It's in Meeker which is 4.5 hours away from here so I would be gone all summer again and so not only would have I have the general stress of being far away but this would definitely create more stress with the wedding planning. It's also a seasonal position and would end on September 10th. Doesn't start until May. It's only a GS-5 so it's less money than the job they are posting for me at the FWS office here. But they are going to start doing the interviews in February. So do I accept the position in case I don't get the job at FWS? But then if I don't let them know that I can't do it until April that's not going to give them a lot of time to find a replacement. The timing on all this is really jacked up. I was hoping I would know what the deal was for the FWS job before things really started to happen with the other one so that I could easily make a decision.
Plus, volunteering is getting pretty annoying because I don't have access to the shared I drive because I'm using my own computer and I don't have access to the printers so what this ends up meaning is they can't really give me any work except filing. And even then they don't have enough work to keep me busy all day. It's just kind of pointless. I'm not getting experience as a biologist which was the whole point but I thought this was all going to end in February but now it looks like it's going to stay like this until May. Blah.
Oh and to top it all off I just accepted a position at the temp office for a one day a week job because I thought I wouldn't be doing it for very long. While it's good I have work, now I can't ditch that position for another full-time temp one at that office because they hate it when you do that. They won't even look for one for me. So I'm stuck with that job and nothing else (unless another part-time one comes in) until it ends.
It's all very frustrating.
