Why hello livejournal!

Hello Livejournal,

Did you know it's 2010? Isn't that crazy? I can't quite believe it because time just keeps moving ever faster but you know, I guess that's how it goes. I had an awesome new years! Cory and I went to Boulder to the B Side Lounge for some great techno/house music. We spent the night in Boulder and then had breakfast at probably what I would consider my favorite breakfast restaurant EVAR- The Buff! It's probably a good thing I don't live in Boulder because I would eat there all the time. I ended up getting pretty drunk early on but stopped drinking right after midnight and drank water steadily until 2:30 and we stopped at Denny's on the way home and the next day I felt fine. It was awesome. Usually I would have a headache and my stomach would be in revolt. Going to have to keep that in mind from now on.

There was a bit of drama before new years though. I got in a fight with Leila basically because of a communication issue (inflection is really hard to grasp via text message and email). She texted me last Sunday to ask what we were doing for new years and I told her and she said Mike was interested but that she felt like it was too far to drive so I suggested getting a hotel room because split 4 ways it would be pretty cheap. She said yes but a couple days later texted to say that I needed to cancel the room and it just pissed me off specifically because she just told me to cancel it without any discussion or explanation. But now it's all explained so all is well. Although I'm probably not going to go out of my way for her anymore.

Work has been an interesting journey since August. I found an email address for someone at the Fish and Wildlife Service and sent her an email asking if they had need of a volunteer along with my resume. I didn't hear back right away so I continued to look for temporary work and ended up working as a temp for the temp office I was registered with. Two days after I accepted that position, Susan at the Fish and Wildlife Service emailed me back to say that they could use a volunteer. *face palm* I needed a paying job at that point but I eventually worked it out with the temp office where I would work half days on fridays so I could volunteer at the Fish and Wildlife Service. The temp job ended on November 20th so now I'm just volunteering but two weeks ago Susan had a meeting with me and said they would like to hire me on. They wanted to find some way to pay me without hiring me because the hiring process is so long and complicated and in the end I might not even get the job but there isn't really a way to do that (which I think is a good thing because I actually want to be hired on). So anyway, the process is underway but with the holidays and whatnot it will probably be February before everything happens. Wish me luck. It's my dream job! :-)

Volunteering has been mostly good. At first I started off correcting their Preble's jumping mouse spreadsheet (look 'em up! They're cute!) and I turned it into an Access database and then I created a database for all the permits that they give to companies for trapping the mice or influencing other endangered species like the Mexican spotted owl or southwestern willow flycatcher. But now the issue is they don't have a computer for me to use and even if they did I can't access the system because I'm just a volunteer so right now I'm basically helping the secretary do her job. That would be fine but the secretary never works! She is constantly on the phone with her friends or making manicure appointments or travel arrangements for her trip to Seattle in July! It's ridiculous and she gave me work to do on Thursday and I realized halfway through that she had given me the wrong files to file and so I had to go back through and pick out all the misfiled documents. Doing your work twice for you because you can't do your job right really pisses me off. Plus, I started volunteering because I wanted to get experience as a biologist. I could go somewhere and get PAID to file shit. I'm holding my tongue for the time being though because they said they are going to hire me on and I think things will be different once I'm on a computer and logged into the system.

So that's the state of my career. Still in flux. Hopefully 2010 is when it all starts to come together. The relationships in my life are awesome! I feel really settled here in Denver and if the need should ever arise it would be really hard to leave. Brandy, Dave and Robyn are my core friend group and we hang out all the time. It's exactly what I wanted. Things with Cory are great. We get into tiffs here and there but that's to be expected. Everything just feels so comfortable and that is really nice. Physically I'm feeling really good. I'm going to the gym at least once a week and yoga once a week. I'm going to try to up that if I can but it's hard to find the time. Much easier now that I'm unemployed :-) I tried a new yoga this past Sunday that my cousin teaches and it was brutal but I think I liked it. I might have to do it a couple more times to be sure though. It's a hot vinyasa/power yoga. It's not as hot as bikram (which I didn't care for) but the room is at 90 - 95 degrees and it still gets pretty intense at times. I came home drenched and exhausted but I think it was good for me.

Well I could go on. It has been awhile after all but that is probably enough.
