Mum has just had this done - SFP thing via, I goove, the Council.
Apparently the eight inches is now just not good enough. So they added on top of it another 15" rather than do remove and replace but I had to clear the space for them. Nearly 2ft insulation now up there and well over the joists - very odd feeling when on the crawl boards as they 'gave' under me
Interesting few days moving it down and up - especially as there was the problem as dad had put everything in a square and it was all right under the eaves and the boards for walking on were all stacked up by the hatch!
Should have had plenty of time for the moving but they'd offered to come ½ fortnight earlier than the original date so I'd only a few days...
[to be sung to the tune of "I am the very model of a modern major general"]
#I am the very model of a frantic VQT re-arranger
#I thought at times that I may be in a little bit of danger
#Of a massive hernia or a wrenching of the muscles
#As I tugged at the packages with assorted hefts and tussles
#As the guys with the insulation had offered half a fortnight early
#And mother agreed to honour that, time enough was only barely
#Shifting quickly all the etcetera had not really been my intention
#But in taking the decision I really didn't get any mention
#Clinging to the rafters like a gibbon with advanced dementia
#Shifting boxes from the corners right into the centre
#Manouvering down the hatchway would be fairly entertaining
#If you are not the one who's muttering and profaning
#Three hundredweight of packages and all the assorted boxen
#I felt at times that I should have loaned a pair of oxen
#A box of single sheets and two wardrobe doors of peculiar sizing
#And some tea chests from their niche took quite a lot of prising
#Many were too weighty to lower five yard down onto the landing
#So needed to be emptied whilst caring just where I was standing
#Before the work the roofspace was already quite the Swedish sauna
#With temperature you'd expect to see some tropic flora / fauna
#Managing the return to loft space near reversing of the clearance
#But shimmies up the ladder had opportunity for some other rants
#And sun upon the slate gave rise to an even hotter sauna
#But now all is laid out better with nothing lurking in a corner
#Walking on the boards I laid upon all the new insulation
#As they settled on the joists was very oddly a sensation
#You do not need to feel your foot'll go through the ceiling
#Situation that I doubt my mother would really find appealing.
