Riding

This past Thursday, despite the morning being awful, I had a fine riding lesson.  Dixie still doesn't like the surface of the arena enough to canter (I guess), but Jonathan & I both rode bareback.  That was the first time for him riding without a saddle or bareback pad at all.  Apparently Deb, the other instructor, is the one who owns the Parelli pad I love, and she'd taken her tack with her, and from now on it's going to live in her truck.  Alas.  Anyway, we did figure eights around barrels, and I eventually did them more or less at the trot, except I _could not_ get Dixie to take the end around the third barrel at a trot.  We tried having her do bigger circles at the trot, which went a little better, and also on the three barrel figure eights I kept ending up too close to the middle barrel (which we started pretending was electric and if I got too close I'd get zapped).  Ah well. Jonathan thinks I should be happy that I can ride slippery bare-back at the trot, and I am, really.
I'll miss riding next week, as I'll be at a conference, but J will go for an hour on his own.
