24 people were invited...16 showed. Michael's bro and his girlfriend didn't come because they went to her family's place instead. Then Ariel's godparents and their 4 kids didn't show because well, she never asked for our new address info and when she tried to call, she only had our old phone number for the house. What a pity too. They missed a good time.
So there were 16 of us in all from both sides of our family which is always fun to get them all together. Michael and I were giving tours of our new place a lot today and it made me so proud that everyone just adores Ulrich City!!! Ariel got a ton of Easter baskets with lots of stuff (not too much candy either which made me very, very happy). It was like Christmas over here though! She is one happy little girl today to say the least.
Also we had a ton of food too...
Deviled Eggs {prepared by yours truly}
Pastellios Wontons (this is a Puerto Rican/Asian crossover thing my aunt invented...way yummy too!)
Ham compliments of my father-in-law
Pernil de Cerdo Asado (aka Roast Pork Shoulder) {prepared by yours truly}
KFC Chicken was brought my one aunt and uncle
Arroz con Gandules (aka Yellow Rice with Pigeon Peas) {prepared by yours truly}
potato salad was made by my mommy
macaroni salad was also made by my mommy
buttered corn {prepared by yours truly}
rolls {yep, me too on this one}
bread pudding custard made my mom
cheesecake provided by the same aunt who made the wontons
fruit salad was brought my cousin from VA
Easter cake by Michael's grandmother
Lemon Meringue Pie also by Michael's grandmother
and coffee from Dunkin Donuts
YUMMY!
I was given a beautiful pot of Yellow Chrysanthemums (which is my favoite flower second to Fire and Ice Roses at least). We had bought 2 Purple Hyacinths (well 2 plants with 3 open bulbs each)...one for each of our moms. Nothing says EASTER like the smell of those flowers! We used them on our tables for decoration and then told our moms after the lunch to take one home with them when they leave. They were both very happy with that.
After lunch we had an Easter Egg hunt for Ariel and my cousin Michael (he's 16 going on 17 but he's autistic so he's a bit behind in things, you know?). Anyway - can you say 168 eggs divided by 2 is a shitload of eggs to find!!! LOL While we were outside having a grand time hunting eggs our hunt ended up being for something much more priceless in the end...My hubby lost his wedding ring in our backyard. Now this wouldn't have been so bad at our old place but dude, our new backyard is quite enormous I kid you not! We were out there searching for a good 45 min's just for the ring but to no avail. Michael ended up leaving when our last guest did so he could go purchase a metal detector to aid in the search. He came home, fired the thing up and used my wedding band to test it as to what "beep" or "blip" sound it would make should he come across it. He must have been out there over an hour before Ariel and I joined in the "fun"? - I'm using that term sarcastically of course. I could see how upset Michael was over this.
I wasn't mad or bummed to be quite honest. I don't know why but for whatever reason, just knowing that the ring was in the yard somewhere was giving me peace of mind. It's not like he lost it in the mall or at the movies, right? Ok...well, while we were out there I heard him yell, "I got it!" But he found it with his eyes and not the damn metal detector. Ugh. Anyway, he's returning the device tomorrow for a refund. We don't need to keep a $100 metal detector...no way! But it was wonderful to know the ring was found and safely back on his finger. Much rejoicing was done...YAY!
In closing I would like to say, I thought cleaning for a party was a lot of work...nah - it's cleaning up AFTER the party that is hell! My family made a mess of the place. Food bits everywhere! Yucky! Oh well...at least we can thank God we have a huge, close-knit family, and that we are fortunate enough to have food in abundance that some of it ends up on the floor.
Oh, and Thank You Jesus for dying for our sins. But even more Thank You Jesus for rising!
Rejoice, for He has risen today!
