The state of my country

Jan 30, 2017 16:44

I have never felt ashamed of my country the way I have this past week. Never, and I do mean never.

We've got Steve Bannon dripping poison into the POTUS' ear - and I had reason to dislike Steve Bannon before he joined the administration. I don't care for deadbeat dads or men who beat their wives, especially if they whine about any attempts to hold them accountable. It's a bias I'm happy to have, because civilized people obey rules, because that's what civilization is.

We've got people from certain countries banned because of Muslims, but not the "Muslim countries" where the current POTUS has business interests. We've got citizens of US allies getting turned away at the borders because they've done work in countries on the "Muslim ban."

We've got the POTUS mocking a senator's tears over the Holocaust, when the senator in question has family that died in the Holocaust. Multiple relatives. You don't need an "acting coach" to weep for the victims of that atrocity; you just have to have compassion for your fellow humans.

We've got Americans who are scared because they fall into the QUILTBAG designation, and the rights they were celebrating last year may be taken away this year, and that may be the beginning of another Shoah.

And dammit, I'm still dealing with post-stroke fatigue and can't really DO anything other than the occasional cyberactivism because otherwise I run the risk of relapse.
